About One Million Degrees:

Although half of Illinois’ public college students attend community college, only one in four of them will graduate with a degree within three years. One Million Degrees (OMD) changes that by providing comprehensive supports to community college students, accelerating their progress on career pathways to economic mobility.

OMD’s model, which combines academic, personal, professional, and financial supports, is changing the education landscape. OMD’s community college scholars are 47% more likely than their counterparts to continue from one semester to the next as a full-time student.

After more than a decade of programming, OMD continues to expand the number of scholars it supports to be a catalyst for change in Chicago. OMD partners with 10 Chicago-area community colleges and will serve over 900 scholars and apprentices across the region in the 2020-2021 academic year.

Position Summary:

One Million Degrees is seeking an entrepreneurial Career Advancement Coordinator to support the implementation of OMD’s earn and learn partnerships with Chicago-area employers and community college partners. OMD anticipates the Coordinator will work full-time on the Medical Assistant Pathway Program (MAPP), now entering its third year, and will also support the organization’s larger career access and advancement student support services.

Playing a critical intermediary role between college, employer, and student, the Career Advancement Coordinator will provide direct coaching and support to multiple cohorts of students who are also full-time employees, collaborating with employer and college partners to optimize the partnership implementation. The Career Advancement Coordinator will adapt the OMD program model and materials to fit within the partnership framework and will continually document both challenges and solutions as they arise across the programs, ultimately producing a set of best practices to be shared across the city and nationally.

The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter, able to develop and support multiple initiatives at once. The successful candidate is a goal-oriented, high-energy team player with a passion for people and the transformative power of education and opportunity. Relationship management, creative thinking, problem-solving, and a can-do attitude are highly valued.
