Position Summary

The Assistant Site Director is responsible for supporting the Program Director with the supervision and management of the after-school program at his/her assigned school site. Duties range from direct supervision of children, teachers and staff, to creating curriculum and maintaining student records. This position is full-time, with each day being divided between administrative responsibilities at the central office and then on-site for the duration of program time.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Director assists the Program Director as needed with the following activities:

On-Site Management, Instruction and Supervision

  • Manages and supervises comprehensive after-school program
  • Assists in creation of after-school curricula
  • Supervision of after-school staff
  • Handles discipline issues for children and staff
  • Monthly supervisions with supervisees
  • Weekly team meetings
  • Creates and maintains schedules
  • Maintain Google Calendar for Sports and other Special Events (to School and Manhattan Youth website)
  • Hiring and training of staff: Recruitment, Interviewing, Hiring, Professional Development and Observation
  • Communicates regularly with school principal, faculty, PTA, staff (coaches), students and parents
  • Administers first aid/keep first aid log of all incidents
  • Parent Contact for Games/Other events: Use Remind or other applications for all parent communications about sports/event changes or confirmations
  • Manage and keep inventory of equipment purchases
  • Collaborate with Director/Assistant Director with creation and tracking of Formsite registration, all DYCD enrollment forms and data entry into DYCD, including Student Files, Student Schedules, Staff Profiles, Attendance, training in new DYCD portal DYCD Connect
  • Assist Director with Staff Evaluation, leading staff meetings and facilitating of professional development
  • Oversee all program transitions including start and end of day
  • Assist Director in conducting and documenting all Fire Drills and Lock Down Drills
  • Rearranges coverage when staff members are absent
  • Send daily absentee emails to parents
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


  • Assist with Summer Programing as needed
  • Formsite: Assist in creation and maintenance of online platform for class registration
  • Attend staff interviews for the upcoming school year


  • Responsible for integrity and organization of student files
  • Program master attendance (Update daily to reflect student changes)
  • Organization of staff files for DOH/DYCD compliance
  • Manages enrollment and reports on attendance (DYCD)
  • Attends meetings with parents, principals, PTA, and other community constituents
  • Arranges for necessary equipment, consumables, supplies and snacks to be delivered to program
  • Weekly email to families about game schedules for the week


  • The incumbent should possess a university degree (preferred) and 3 years of after-school, education and/or childcare experience
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and correct conduct and performance of adults and children
  • Able to manage and give priority to multiple tasks. Exhibit creativity and innovativeness working in a fast-paced environment
  • Exhibit superior oral and written skills and be able to maintain the confidentiality of all documents.
  • Strong computer skills
  • Able to use own initiative, sound judgment, tact and diplomacy. Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills. Meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure
