The Center for Teen Empowerment (TE)‘s mission is to employ, train, and empower youth to, in collaboration with adults, create peace, equity, and justice. TE is a critically conscious youth development organization that believes that young people are critical assets to creating positive change in their own lives and their communities. Through a unique asset-based youth organizing program implemented in Boston and Somerville, MA, and Rochester, NY, TE employs youth ages 14-21 to identify the most pressing issues in their community and develop a strategy to address those issues. Using TE’s interactive model, the project builds the leadership skills of youth and trains them to do the planning and problem solving necessary to implement their strategic plans and make real, meaningful changes in their communities.

The Somerville Youth Program Coordinator will work with the Somerville Director and a team of staff to develop and implement a comprehensive youth engagement strategy for the City of Somerville, MA. The program coordinator will meet with City staff in the school, library, health, and other departments to implement youth leadership initiatives that increase opportunities for youth ages 13 to 20 to gain leadership and employment skills and work toward improved outcomes for all youth. Initiatives include a youth media program, youth mental wellness ambassador program, library teen event leaders program, and outdoors leadership and exploration opportunities. The program coordinator will work directly with both middle school and high school age youth to implement social change events and initiatives in their community.

In addition, the coordinator will be part of a team of staff responsible for program evaluation and reporting, marketing events and initiatives in the community and on social media, building relationships with external partners, representing the organization at community meetings and events, assisting with fundraising, and other tasks as assigned.
