Description

Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund (AFR) is seeking a Staff Writer.

The staff writer will draw on the expertise of AFR policy, communications, and campaigns staff, as well as our coalition members and his/her/their own research skills to create reports, op-eds, blog posts, fact sheets, calls to action and more. The staff writer will produce original materials, help edit material written by others, and collaborate on shared projects in order to advance our shared policy agenda. Projects will include both materials for direct distribution or publication and tools for partners. The job offers an opportunity to do creative work and to have a significant impact.

AFR played a leading role in winning passage of post crisis financial reforms, including the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and we are continuing the push to transform the financial system, even as we fend off attacks on existing public protections. AFR’s staff effectively advances the agenda of a coalition of more than 200 consumer, civil rights, labor, community-based, and other organizations, along with academics and other experts, working together to advance this fundamentally important part of the economic and racial justice agenda.

Strong candidates will be effective communicators in a variety of genres and voices and have experience working with diverse communities; be good at translating complicated policy into clear language and compelling stories; have some knowledge of financial regulation and/or consumer protection, and be eager to learn more; be comfortable with multitasking; be able to collaborate effectively with other staff and with the diverse members of our coalition; be able to capture nuances of approach and tone; be familiar with the range of new media tools; be skilled at swiftly mastering new subject material, and have experience with both grassroots and regulatory or legislative advocacy.
