We are seeking a temporary Music Teacher to provide music education in our Visual and Performing Arts Department from November 2018 through March 2019. The Visual and Performing Arts Department integrates art performance and art education into our programs serving thousands of New Yorkers in need, including our Early Childhood Center, RealArts Afterschool Program and Summer Camp, two senior centers, day program for older adults with dementia or related disorders, and housing and homeless services. This is an exciting position for someone who is passionate about bringing performing arts and arts education to our community as part of a strong, collaborative inter-disciplinary organization.
The temporary Music Teacher is responsible for delivering music classes to a variety of populations, including children in our Early Childhood Center, After School and Summer Camp programs; older adults who participate in our senior centers and day program for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The Music Teacher is also responsible for assisting with the creation of program performances and the general supervision of participants during music classes and related activities. The Music Teacher will work with a team of arts educators and must be a caring individual who has experience working with diverse populations.
Qualifications: The temporary Music Teacher will possess a combination of music and education skills. S/he will be energetic, self-motivated, and will be creative and thoughtful in the development and oversight of music-related educational programming. S/he must have great communication skills, with a demonstrated commitment to implementing quality arts education. Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in music, musical theatre or related field required. Must have a minimum of 1 year of previous experience teaching school age children. Piano or guitar proficiency required. The hours are approximately 20 - 30 hours/week.
