Description

The NC Disaster Response and Resilience Network (DRRN) is a fiscally-sponsored project of Southern Vision Alliance (SVA). A central focus of the network is to engage and support BIPOC communities in organizing around environmental disasters on the local level and to create an organized voice and vessel for statewide systems change. Major components of DRRN include weekly virtual, statewide meetings, creating and sharing online resources, and education and training through workshops, programs, and events.

In the present disaster response system, impacted residents are treated as individual clients and recipients of services with little or no power to impact the direction, speed, and quality of the recovery process. DRRN is based on the principle that community residents impacted by disaster need to lead the long-term redevelopment, recovery, and resiliency efforts in their communities in partnership with public and private agencies and programs. DRRN’s objective is to facilitate the empowerment of residents in disaster-impacted communities to claim a central role in decision-making, visioning, planning, and implementing community-based and statewide efforts.

The network is coordinated by the DRRN director who will manage and provide support to the coordinator. Visit our website at www.ncsurvivalschool.com.

The coordinator DRRN will:

(1) Manage, organize and support SVA’s local, regional, and statewide disaster community organizing in communities impacted by climate disasters, including hurricanes, droughts, flooding, heat stress, and forest fires

(2) Engage impacted community leaders and grassroots organizations with statewide partners in developing and implementing system change campaigns in NC’s disaster response system that creates a more empowering, just, and equitable approach to disaster preparedness, relief, recovery, and resiliency.

(3) Help coordinate training and community events both virtually and in person.

(4) Travel is required for this position. Travel will focus primarily in Eastern NC initially and may be expanded throughout the state.

Qualifications: Experience in program management, community empowerment, systems change, and a collaborative style of work and decision-making. People who are self-directed and disciplined, compassionate and competent, and are strongly committed to intersectional collaboration are urged to apply.
