Mission: Friends of the Children-Boston creates generational change by engaging children from high-risk communities in twelve and a half years of transformative mentoring relationships.

Organization: Friends of the Children-Boston (Friends-Boston) creates generational change by engaging children from high-risk communities in 12.5 years of transformative mentoring relationships. We call the children we serve Achievers to demonstrate our belief in their potential for success. Friends-Boston’s long-term goal is that Achievers will graduate from high school and succeed in college. We select children from high-risk communities in first grade and provide them with weekly support every year for 12.5 years.

Job Description Summary: Friends of the Children-Boston is seeking a results-driven Assistant Director of Program and Evaluation to help lead the organization in next level programmatic implementation and evaluation. This person is charged with direct supervision of Adolescent programming staff, oversee all adolescent cohort-wide activities and programming (individual and group), cultivating and managing relationship with other nonprofit partners and area schools for intern recruitment, and management of evaluation systems that measure Friends-Boston’s effectiveness to help children graduate high school and obtain post-secondary educational success. The Assistant Director of Programming and Evaluation reports to the Director of Program and is an integral member of the organizational leadership team.

Supervision, Program Management and Partnership Development (60%)

●                   Directly supervise a team of seven Adolescent Program Staff to insure highest level of quality, safety and appropriate protocols are in place for programmatic success.

●                   Work with Director of Program in the hiring and evaluation of all adolescent staff

●                   Work with Director of Program and adolescent program staff to develop, implement and evaluate age appropriate and outcome focused cohort-wide activities and programming to encourage increased meaningful engagement of adolescent age Achievers

●                   Act as the point person for key external partnerships pertaining to adolescent programming

●                   Actively support the identification and sourcing of critical resources that families and Achievers may need, including but not limited to, basic needs, information and partnership

●                   Proactively analyze and use data to monitor and ensure that outcomes for Adolescent aged Achievers are on track


Evaluation (30%)

●                   Be the lead in all-things program evaluation, including but not limited to,

o       Proactively develop effective evaluation tools and systems in alignment with both needs of the organization and Friends of the Children National Network data standards;

o       Proactively review and analysis data to inform trends, strong and weak signals; effectiveness of current practices and potential trainings and management practice needs;

o       Proactively create a culture of data-driven practices across program team and the program leadership; and

o       Serve as the local liaison to all things evaluation to the National Network including managing and troubleshooting the ETO software usage

●                   Prepare and lead the monthly Data Share Out with the full program team to create organizational support and accountability for data and outcome evaluation.

●                   Proactively review and update data entry guidelines on a consistent basis, as well as to uphold the highest level of integrity of data

●                   Provide key evaluation findings to the organizational leadership team on a regular basis that will help inform operational and programmatic strategic decisions


Organizational Support (10%)

●                   Participate as an integral member of the Program Leadership Team in setting the right agenda and systems to insure highest quality, maximum efficiency and effectiveness of the program

●                   Participate as an integral member of the Organizational Leadership Team and provide necessary data and reports to inform important organizational decisions and setting operational priorities

●                   Actively contribute and participate in organizational-wide activities to advance the overall success of our organization and delivery of our mission

●                   Be an active participant and contributor to developing and maintaining a healthy organizational culture with a focus on organizational core values

●                   Other duties as assigned

Required Education, Skills and Attributes/Qualifications:

●                   Maser’s degree in Social Work/Human Services/Education or relevant continuing education training in adolescent youth work/trauma/positive youth development/clinical intervention required

●                   Three years’ proven experience in staff supervision and management required

●                   A minimum of 5 years of experience working directly with adolescents required

●                   Ability to work at least 2 Saturdays/month throughout the year as well as some nights required

●                   Strong organizational and time management skills required

●                   Experience working in a racially, culturally and gender diverse workplace and community required

●                   Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google tools strongly required


Preferred Education, Skills and Attributes/Qualifications:

●                   Experience in data evaluation required; and experience working with Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) or a similar data system strongly preferred

●                   Experience leading programs and organizations in times of growth and change a plus

●                   Experience working with Boston Public Schools or other equivalent school systems strongly preferred
