Position Summary

Reporting to Business Development Director, the Business Technical Assistance Provider is an essential part of the Welcoming Center’s team. The Community Business Technical Assistance Provider works directly with the community and small businesses in Pennsylvania’s 200th Legislative District in northwest Philadelphia. Upon completion of a mandatory training in market research, social media marketing, business planning and grants application, the Technical Assistance Provider will be responsible for:

  • Conducting market research through interviews, databases, outreach, surveys, etc.
  • Mapping existing community assets, verifying secondary data using maps
  • Correcting discrepancies by canvassing specific areas door-to-door including commercial corridors and documenting and reporting the information gathered
  • Providing market research, social media, and grant application support to neighborhood businesses
  • Collecting household, demographic, and other related information about community assets, as needed

The Community Business Technical Assistance Provider must be able to compile a report reflecting the work undertaken. Working in tandem with WCNP staff as well as legislative district staff is an essential component of this position.


Duties of the Position

  • Interviews survey respondents by telephone or in person, following strict protocols and procedures
  • Files completed surveys on a regular basis and keep supervisors informed of any challenges and maintain records of work completed
  • Conducts outreach to businesses in the neighborhood commercial corridors to encourage participation in the data collection process
  • Ability to use a computer-based data collection system
  • Reviews completed survey instruments and logs for completeness and legibility
  • Helps neighborhood businesses put their businesses on Google maps, set up social media platforms, and create simple informational websites
  • Coordinates with experts to help the businesses set up online stores among others
  • Ability to search for small business grants and help the businesses with the application process


This position requires excellent data recording skills; demonstrable initiative, and flexibility; ability to work both independently and effectively in groups; strong interpersonal & organizational skills.

Specific requirements are:

  • Minimum – HS diploma with at least one full year of work experience; ability to speak a second language is a plus
  • Excellent skill in being precise and comfortable with a wide variety of people
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Maintains a professional appearance and presence in assigned territory
  • Comfortable walking in the neighborhoods of the 200th PA Legislative District and working outdoors
  • Friendly and outgoing, ease with meeting a variety of people
  • Precise and accurate in recording collected information
  • Respectful and inquisitive
  • Able to speak, read, and record statements in English
  • Lives in or knows their way around the 200th Legislative District
