Part of the Solution (POTS) is a leading provider of emergency food, social, and legal services in New York City. Based in the Bronx, POTS has developed a unique ‘one-stop shop’ service delivery model designed to help move people from crisis to stability, and ultimately self-sufficiency. Current services include a Community Dining Room open seven days a week; a grocery-store model Food Pantry; Clothing Room, Shower and Mail Facilities; Barbershop; Case Management to help people address barriers to stability; and a Legal Clinic specializing in eviction prevention and improper of benefits.This year alone, 30,000 people, including 9,000 children, will benefit from POTS’ work. More than 950,000 meals will be provided and $7 million in annual, ongoing benefits will be secured for low-income community members.
About the position
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Pantry Associate will support and maintain the smooth functioning of the Pantry Program. This includes the following:
- Foster a welcoming environment where clients are served with dignity and respect
- Interview clients
- Schedule according to POTS pantry calendar and policies
- Address questions and manage expectations of clients seeking pantry services
- Accurately enter data into POTS’ client database
The Pantry Associate will also contribute to maintaining the cleanliness and inventory in the Pantry and assist in the supervision of volunteers in the Pantry program. The Food Associate must perform all his/her duties with the goal of insuring POTS’s Core Values (Community, Respect, Hospitality, Empowerment, and Justice) are upheld in the delivery of services.
This position is ideal for someone who likes to work with people and in customer service, but also enjoys working with computers. POTS provides training for all its employees to improve their skills and abilities.
- Customer service experience
- Spanish language ability
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Comfort with MS Office, especially Excel and Word
- General Facility with computers
- Ability to manage a crowd
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Commitment to the mission and vision of POTS
Additional skills and abilities:
- Some college
- Client interview or case management experience
- Experience in cooking/nutrition education
