NEIWPCC is a regional commission that helps the states of the Northeast preserve and advance water quality. We engage and convene water quality professionals and other interested parties from New England and New York to collaborate on water, wastewater, and environmental science challenges across the regions, ecosystems, and areas of expertise.

We are looking for an individual to support NEIWPCC’s training programs, as well as to assist in certification program activities, as needed.  This person will also provide assistance to the Program Manager and Director of Wastewater and Onsite Programs with various program issues and grants and develop information on which Commission policy decisions are based. Additionally, they will work with other staff to prepare individual project/program element work plans and budgets and approve payments under those projects. And, serve as staff support and as an information clearinghouse for a wide range of environmental issues. This position is a growth opportunity for candidates with a desire to learn about technical topics related to clean water, particularly those subjects related to wastewater.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Training: Assist in the operation of NEIWPCC’s training programs, for both virtual and in-person course offerings. This includes helping to coordinate the training schedule, hosting courses, and supporting trainers with their technical and logistical needs. Work to adapt existing course materials to an online/virtual setting, as needed. Incumbent will update and maintain library of course materials, including presentations and student handouts. Additionally, prepare and maintain SOPs for course operations and general tasks, geared both to NEIWPCC employees and contract trainers.

Certification: Support NEIWPCC’s certification programs, as needed, to include but not be limited to Massachusetts Wastewater, Title 5, and Soil Evaluator certifications. Host field courses and provide logistical support for both field and classroom courses including distributing class materials, exam results, and credentials. Assist with certification and renewals, as needed, such as by handling invoicing and distribution of licenses and credentials. Organize and maintain operator certification records.

Programmatic Support: Assist the Director of Wastewater and Onsite Programs and Program Manager in development of annual plans and budgets. Support preparation of quarterly progress reports to EPA and other funding agencies. Maintain appropriate pages on NEIWPCC’s website to ensure they are up-to-date and accurate. Prepare articles or provide background materials for NEIWPCC publications. Coordinate on crosscutting topics with other divisions, including Water Quality and Water Resource Protection, as needed. Support the formulation of responses to inquiries from state and federal agencies, consultants, and general public about wastewater, water quality issues, technical publications, and NEIWPCC programs. Serve as project officer or assistant on new grants, as needed. Other duties as assigned.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, environmental studies, natural science, public health, earth science, biology, chemistry or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of full-time technical or professional work experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high degree of motivation to succeed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for details and editing.
  • Think and act in a broad collaborative style and care deeply about the health and impact of the entire organization.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to your own transportation is required.
