SEIU Local 1991 is an active, growing, progressive healthcare union based in South Florida. The local currently represents Registered Nurses, physicians, and other professionals at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Under the direction of the Executive Director or designee, the Field Representative/Organizer will be responsible for representing and organizing RNs and other professionals within the Jackson Health System. Major areas of responsibility include contract administration, leadership development, internal organizing and contract campaigns. This staff member will be expected, within an organizing model, to represent workers in all phases of workplace disputes, with an emphasis on teaching stewards and activists to interpret the contract, handle grievances, coordinate worksite actions and member participation, and build the Union inside their hospitals. Other responsibilities include the development and maintenance of steward/communication networks and regular leaflet/newsletter production, as well as some external organizing.


The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, team player who has some experience within the field of progressive activism and/or organizing. Experience in union organizing and worker representation is preferred. Experience as a rank-and-file steward/activist is desirable, as is experience in the healthcare field or with healthcare workers.
