JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Community Campaign Coordinator

ABOUT US

Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1976 with the mission to “promote the healthy development of individuals and families, encourage service and volunteerism, and help build community.”

Engaging Community in Advocacy and Policy (ECAP) is a division of BACR that facilitates community-based public health policy advocacy throughout the Bay Area. Campaigns include: increasing awareness and educating decision-makers on policies to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, reducing youth access to flavored tobacco, reducing youth alcohol and other drug access, and increasing access to and availability of healthy foods through policies, systems and environmental change work.

Bay Area Community Resources is an equal opportunity employer and encourages a diverse workforce

ABOUT YOU

You have experience working with youth and want to empower them to increase community access to healthy foods. You work well on your own, but enjoy being part of a supportive team with a common mission.

INITIATIVE

Today’s food landscape — composed predominantly of retail options and media marketing — plays a large role in determining what people purchase and eat. In-store marketing and favorable product placements heavily promote salty snacks and sugar sweetened beverages. The rise of cheap, ready to eat products high in fat, sugar, salt, and calories contribute to health issues including cavities, heart disease, and diabetes. Research in neighboring communities suggests opportunities for promoting healthy items where consumers shop, beginning with the checkout aisles. Supporting healthy food environments is an essential to public health.
