Opportunity to join New Jersey’s preeminent autism center as the Director of Development. The ideal candidate will be highly-organized, detail-oriented and energetic with strong writing skills and the ability to forge relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization – including parents and families, staff, board members, donors and community leaders. To be successful in this role you must not only have great ideas, but also the ability to execute the plan with a modicum of humor, compassion, and camaraderie. Event management experience is a must.


The Director of Development is responsible for the design, development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program focusing on special events, individuals, corporations, and foundations. The Director will provide strategic oversight and direction for all development activities including several large and small-scale events throughout the year, letters of appeal, major gifts, grant writing and donor relations.  

Specific duties:

  • Organize, direct, and run special fundraising events including the letter of appeal, Go the Distance for Autism and The Fall Affair Gala

- Identify new event opportunities

-Recruit and direct volunteers and committees for events

-Develop event budgets and manage event spending

-Manage all event marketing efforts – print, social media, website,

-Organize and maintain contracts related to events

-Acknowledge all gifts received through letters of thanks


  •  Board of Directors/Parent relations

-Work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and parents on the development of

strategic fundraising initiatives

-Prepare fundraising reports following events for evaluation by Board of Directors


  • Community/Public Relations

-Identify new corporate/foundation sponsors for events

-Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors from the broader community

-Engage the corporate community in programs and activities of Alpine Learning Group


  •  Marketing

-Prepare all marketing materials for Alpine programs.

-Manage social media sites including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter – ensure content

is timely and positively representative of Alpine’s mission and goals.

-Routinely update website content including events, news and announcements


  •  General responsibilities

-Evaluate and refine existing recognition programs, fundraising policies and guidelines

-Identify long term needs of Development Department

Reports to: Director of Finance and Operations


Job Requirements/Skills/Knowledge:

Demonstrates knowledge of fund raising strategies and resources

Has excellent written and oral communication skills

Demonstrates the ability to plan, prioritize, and schedule multiple tasks

Proficient in word processing

Proficient in data-base tracking systems – specific experience with Donor View, Donor Drive and Greater Giving is a plus


Clearances: Compliance with Federal and State Personnel Code requirements, including, but not limited to Mantoux TB test, Criminal History Review, Citizenship status

Working Environment/Physical Demands:

Routine physical activity associated with normal office environment including some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, manual dexterity to use office equipment and operate computer keyboard. Some physical activity related to setting up events.


Job Hours and PTO:

This a an exempt, salaried position based on a 40 hour work week, typically Monday- Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, unless there are “off hours” for meetings or events. Salary paid on a semi-monthly basis on the 15th and 30th of each month. You are allotted the following Paid Time Off (PTO): 

  • 9 paid holidays per year ( July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day)
  • 8 personal/sick days per year
  • 15 vacation days per year
  • You may carry over a maximum of 15 unused PTO days each year



After a 90-day waiting period, the candidate is eligible for a full benefits package which includes:
