Position Overview

Sunnyside Community Services (SCS) is seeking an Assistant Director/Education Specialist for the Campus at IS5 Located in Elmhurst, Queens. This campus houses a range of educational and recreational services for youth and adults in the community, Monday through Saturday. The Assistant Director will, among other duties, work with youth workers on day-to-day services, as well as supervising the site in the absence of the campus director.

Position Responsibilities

·        Assist the Campus Director in building and maintaining relationships with designated school personnel to ensure that our program is aligned with school goals and initiatives.

·        Oversee participant recruitment and retention strategies alongside the Program leadership team.

·        Conduct wellness rounds of program often to ensure the safety of participants and program, observe programming in action to ensure program quality and safety.

·        Assist in resolving conflicts between stakeholders as they arise including between staff and students, students and students, and staff and staff.

·        Work with program leadership to identify or develop curriculum, consultants and/or subcontractors.

·        Work with program leadership to provide trainings on lesson plans, compliance and safety, behavior and classroom management, and other topics as needed for direct service staff.

·        Assist Campus Director with meeting and overseeing contractual requirements that include record keeping, data entry, and reporting.

·        Create a welcoming and safe environment for all staff, clients, and program participants.

·        Assist the Campus Director with hiring, onboarding, and retention of direct service staff including background checks and staff clearances through the DOH/OFCS and DOE clearances.

·        Assist in creating and maintain systems of documentation and data keeping to keep the site in compliance both in person and digitally.

·        Attend all required meetings and trainings.

·        Act as Site Supervisor in the absence of the Campus Director.

·        Fill in for gaps in program as needed.

·        All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Experience in community-based services required, Beacon or Cornerstone experience preferred.
  • Experience managing entry level onboarding, retention, and background clearances required.
  • At least two years of experience of supervisory experience required, preferably in an afterschool setting.
  • At least two years’ experience with planning lessons and leading activities required.
  • Ability to thrive under high stress situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communications skills
  • Computer literate with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, G-Suite, Canva, DYCD Connect and Salesforce.

·        Ability to organize, manage and evaluate multiple activities and project manage.

·        Ability to work independently and in a team environment as a participant and leader.

·        Flexibility to work evenings and weekends in addition to regular schedule as needed required.

·        Bilingual Spanish, Chinese preferred

·        Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, volunteers, and other community/government agencies.

·        Ability to work both in person and remotely required.
