MSF would like to inspire an open and safe dialogue across the movement on all topics related to discrimination and injustice. We carry a strong sense of urgency to address DEI at all levels in the organization. As a result, a multitude  of initiatives are currently being implemented across MSF in parallel .    

With immediate effect, Operating Centre Amsterdam (OCA) is seeking a:  

Senior Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Advisor (full time)  

Objective of the position:  

As Senior DEI Advisor you will advise the Staff Director and Operating Centre Amsterdam (OCA) Management Team (MT) on DEI for OCA’s global staff, and develop, and implement a strategic DEI road map in alignment with our staff vision and strategic plan. This role will also coordinate between the different DEI initiatives and committees within the OCA movement to create synergies and collaboration. It is line managed by the Staff Director.  

Your main responsibilities will consist of:   

  • Strategy definition and implementation/ Project Management :  
  • Develop, implement and monitor the OCA DE&I action plans in close collaboration with MT and the different departments;  
  • Support the MT in developing the DE &I strategy;  
  • Collaborate with and ensure alignment and cohesion between the different OCA offices and DEI teams/ committees;  
  • Act as a sparring partner for departments on how to improve/align activities and processes to the OCA DE&I ambitions and objectives;  
  • Collaborate with Learning & Development (L&D) to integrate DE&I themes into the L&D curriculum;  
  • Set up new DE&I policies and review all existing policies in cooperation with related departments for MSF OCA;  
  • Ongoing monitoring, evaluation and follow - up of the DE&I work plan s to adapt to changes in context and evolving priorities;  
  • Actively support ongoing DEI initiatives .  
  • Knowledge Sharing   
  • Organise related documents and information for sharing with stakeholders in an accessible platform, i.e. Portal/SharePoint;  
  • Collaborate, organise and coordinate staff events related to DE&I (webinars etc.);  
  • Contributes to ‘safe spaces’ where employees can speak freely about DEI matters;  
  • Define and ensure roll out of communication on progress to the wider organization and stakeholders;  
  • Develop a transparent accountability tool illustrating progress on set objectives both internally and externally, in collaboration with HR Department, L&D and movement wide stakeholders.  
  • Liaise with other OCs on DEI progress and work   
  • In collaboration with L&D, anti-racism consultant, develop and facilitate DEI modules.    

Interaction with Internal & External stakeholders will include:   

  • Chairing the workgroup on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion  
  • Communicating with the OCA MT and other relevant stakeholders within OCA and the broader MSF movement on topics related to DEI  
  • Actively updating (publishing and communicating) on DEI progress with OCA stakeholders and movement  
  • Relevant professional networking      

Candidate Profile    

MSF is a civil society initiative that brings together individuals committed to the assistance of other human beings in crisis. As such MSF is by choice (Chantilly) an association. Each individual working with MSF does it out of conviction and commitment and is ready to uphold the values and principles of MSF.    

As a DEI content expert, you are passionate about, and have good working knowledge of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion concepts – and a track record of implementing these.  This also includes related fields like unconscious bias, intersectionality, cultural dimensions and communication theory in addition to “anti-racism” concepts and vocabulary.    

You have the ability to prepare and facilitate meetings and workshops around sensitive subject matter, and the flexibility to adapt communication through self-, social and cross-cultural awareness; You are open, empathetic with keen emotional intelligence .  

You have an understanding of (and working experience with) cultural differences and understand local contexts and display flexibility to adapt and support in local contexts and are willing to travel occasionally . This includes engaging with people with strong views, opinions and emotions.    

You have project management skills and have successfully designed, led, implemented various DEI projects and initiatives in a senior capacity. You have at least 5 years relevant professional experience in a similar position , and a Bachelor’s (or similar) level of thinking.  

You have an open and active mind-set, with strong communication skills, both verbal and written in English ( French, Spanish, Arabic, other languages  are considered a plus ). Your strategic thinking ability will ensure the development and implementation of a DEI road map throughout OCA globally.

We are flexible on where the job is based but with a strong preference for an MSF OCA location outside the Global North: Delhi, Amman and Nairobi. Relocation may be considered in line with company policies that apply (pending location).  

For this full-time role, the salary (and benefits) is determined on relevant professional experience and are aligned with local policies depending on where the role is based. More details will be discussed during the selection phase.
