National Alliance of HUD Tenants (NAHT) Safe and Healthy Homes VISTA Project About the VISTA Tenant Organizer Position: As the Americorps VISTA Tenant Organizer you will gain a deep understanding of federally-supported housing and tenant’s rights. Your work will be critical to preserving and improving quality affordable housing across New York City. We seek to build the capacity of tenants in privately-owned, federally assisted multifamily housing to form tenant associations to ● improve health and safety outcomes in their communities ● increase resident awareness of their rights and responsibilities, including recovery from COVID-19 You will perform activities such as ● door-knocking and distributing information to tenants in their homes ● helping tenants convene building-level meetings to address concerns such as repairs ● identify and recruit tenant leaders to help form or strengthen independent tenant associations Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: ● High school diploma/GED ● 18 years old, minimum ● Be confident, personable, highly motivated, well organized, and detail-oriented Program benefits: ● AmeriCorps VISTA offers a living allowance stipend of $924.12/biweekly ● Relocation Allowance, and Childcare Assistance if eligible ● Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Training. ● *For details about AmeriCorps VISTA healthcare benefits, please visit: http://www.vistacampus.gov/healthcare To apply: ● Complete the application here (https://my.americorps.gov/mp/listing/viewListing.do?fromSearch=true&id=105004) and indicate that you would like to be placed at Tenants & Neighbors. ● Or a cover letter and resume to Genesis Aquino, Executive Director, at gaquino@tandn.org.
