The Smithsonian American Art Museum seeks to fill a position located in the Education Department. Working with the Distance Learning Coordinator, Videoconference Education Programs, the Distance Learning Educator will support the Museum’s contract with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). DoDEA is the world-wide, on-base K-12 school system for dependents of American military personnel.

Duties include:

  • Create, in collaboration with DoDEA teachers and upon their own initiative, standards- based digital resources including lesson plans and classroom-based activities which integrate American art across curriculum subjects for K-12 students;
  • Schedule, troubleshoot, and facilitate age-appropriate, standards-based interactive videoconferences for K-12 students world-wide using distance learning technology;
  • Plan, troubleshoot, and facilitate webinar-style teacher professional development workshops;
  • Maintain and nurture an online community of DoDEA teachers and Educational Technologists world-wide;
  • Communicate in a prompt and professional manner with DoDEA teachers and administrators via email and online forums;
  • Maintain accurate records for the purposes of evaluation and periodic reporting;
  • Remain abreast of best practices in pedagogy and technology.

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, but does require intermittent availability on Sunday nights as well as weekdays between 6:00PM and 8:00AM. This is a Trust (non- federal) IS-7 position (starting salary $49,157) with benefits. This is a one-year appointment, with possibility of extension with renewal of the DoDEA contract. Flexible work arrangements and telework options are available.
