The Marketing and Member Experience department develops, implements, and evaluates marketing strategies and tactics in support of Association-wide goals and initiatives. It is also responsible for the recruitment and retention of AILA members by highlighting and promoting the benefits of AILA membership. The department works to integrate member benefits in AILA’s marketing and member outreach plans across various demographics, practice areas and levels of experience, etc.
The position is primarily responsible for leading the overall brand, positioning and marketing strategy for AILA. The Director has a deep understanding of segmentation, targeting and driving an overall marketing strategy towards positive results, especially in member acquisition and retention. The Director will work in close collaboration with other department leads to understand the needs of the members and ways to highlight the benefits of AILA membership by identifying and analyzing market data, broadening AILA’s appeal to new and more diverse market segments and ensuring that marketing activities are aligned with organizational goals. The position oversees marketing and member services, data mining and analysis, targeting and segmentation programming.
Essential Job Functions
Marketing Strategy, Brand and Positioning
Lead strategic direction and delivery of all marketing programs, and work to improve member engagement by highlighting member benefits offered throughout the various departments of AILA National.
In conjunction with departmental leaders, develop and implement an integrated program to market key products, including the annual convention, summer conferences, certification, publications, career center, and other products.
Utilize segmentation and analytics to develop member engagement strategies that improve member retention and overall member lifetime value.
Manage design and implementation of market research initiatives and keep abreast of changing demographics in the membership and profession. Use information from research and data in an integrated way to provide insights and ensure that Association marketing approaches and formats are based on audience and response data.
Develop, implement, and periodically modify marketing plans for Association products and services. Identify customer requirements and enhance customer awareness of the Association’s products and services.
Identify business opportunities for the Association and develop new methods for promoting AILA attorneys to the public.
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy plan for member recruitment and retention.
Develop policies and procedures to ensure delivery of timely, efficient, and high-quality services to the AILA Membership.
Identify and analyze membership trends and demographics to tailor and elevate association content and services.
Evaluate current member service programs for ongoing relevance and excellence.
Develop effective membership promotion plans; coordinates and collaborates with management team to promote membership and member benefits.
Identify causes of membership attrition and develops appropriate retention efforts.
Develop department’s annual plan goals and budget. Monitor monthly receipts and expenses to ensure compliance with budget goals
Participate with AILA Board & Staff Executive Leadership in guiding organizational direction and implementation of annual plan and budget
Work with senior management team to develop organizational goals, implementation plans, and internal policies and procedures to cultivate a positive workplace culture
Oversee aspects of membership processing including the accuracy of member records to ensure the quality of the information in the association management system.
Supervise department staff and manage day-to-day operations of the department.
Minimum Job Requirements
10 years of progressive experience in marketing, business development, sales or similar. Experience must demonstrate expertise and direct responsibility for marketing strategy and execution, broad marketing initiatives, segmentation/data analysis and data-based decision making, direct marketing campaigns, product development, and revenue generation. Experience in a legal, law firm, professional service, and not-for-profit or membership association environment preferred. Recent experience managing revenue and expense budgets, strong data analysis, evaluation and income project skills. Prior managerial and leadership experience needed.
