Intro/Program Description: Goddard Riverside Community Center (GRCC), a well-established Manhattan community-based agency with an annual operating budget of $30 million, seeks a highly qualified individual to oversee the educational and administrative aspects of one of the Early Childhood Education sites. Goddard Riverside has four early childhood centers for working families and their children aged 2 to 5. Each center facilitates classroom activities that promote intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth through the hands-on exploration of science, nature and art.

Schedule: Monday through Friday - 8:00am to 4:00pm

Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties

  • Oversee all aspects for the program administration, operations and compliance with standards and regulations for the Head Start program
  • Provide leadership to ensure high quality early childhood curriculum for children ages 3-5
  • Liaise with Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), NYC Department of Education (DOE) for Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK)
  • Insure program meets Department of Health and Mental Hygiene requirements including mandated documentation for children and staff
  • In collaboration with supervisors prepare annual budget and monitor center finances
  • Establish educational staff schedules, including approval of time off requests and coordinates placement of classroom substitute teachers to ensure appropriate classroom coverage
  • Manage program recruitment and enrollment
  • Supervise hiring and orientation of new employees
  • Complete required classroom observations and lesson plan reviews, complete all staff performance appraisals
  • Review educational plan/curricula
  • Provide reflective supervision through coaching and mentoring teachers
  • Ensure timely and quality written documentation of classroom activities/planning, including, individual goal setting, curriculum planning and attendance
  • Organize and maintain a Delegate Parent Advisory Committee
  • Review evacuation and emergency procedures
  • Ensure all assigned program reports are completed and submitted in a timely fashion
  • Provide oversight on purchasing
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Early Childhood Education

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and NYS Certification in Early Childhood Education required
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working with ACS funded Day Care and Head Start programs as well as DOE UPK programs
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in early childhood classrooms
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in a supervisory/management role
  • Experience with all guidelines, regulations and expectations with regards to early childhood unions, ACS contracts, Head Start regulations, DOE contracts, DOH licenses
  • Must meet standards for licensing requirements (finger printing, child abuse check, etc.)

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to supervise, coach and collaborate with staff
  • Knowledge of DOE UPK, Day Care and Early Learn Policies and Procedures
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have/be:

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 15 pounds
  • Occasional travel to meetings with funders, oversight agencies
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
