Job Summary: The Community Organizer for Youth Programs provides support, mentorship and organizing to Chinatown CDC’s youth to be leaders for their community. Under the supervision of the Senior Community Organizer, the Community Organizer will facilitate and staff activities/events such as youth leadership development meetings, intergeneration bonding, monthly community garden clean-ups, and special youth projects and events. The Community Organizer will also work with the Youth Team staff to develop training and curriculum for youth participants.

Status: Full time, Nonexempt, Regular

Location: Chinatown neighborhood, San Francisco

Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., flexible hours needed, frequent evenings and weekends

The Organization: A private non-profit founded in 1977, Chinatown Community Development Center believes in a comprehensive vision of community. We own and/or manage approximately 30 affordable housing buildings serving over 3,800 low-income seniors, single adults, formerly homeless adults, and families of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Tenderloin, Western Addition, and Polk Gulch neighborhoods. General Job Responsibilities:

  • Staff and coordinate youth programs, activities, and events that empower and educate local youth to be leaders for their community 
  • Provide mentorship, enrichment, and leadership training to youth 
  • Staff and coordinate youth service learning programs (i.e., intergeneration programming, alleyway cleanups and graffiti removal, SRO children's program for Super Sunday events, arts projects, etc.)
  • Develop and lead workshops relevant to youth leaders' development and educational growth 
  • Support advocacy efforts as needed on youth issues and community needs.
  • Assist in grant writing and grant reporting
  • Organize, mobilize, and empower local youth to be leaders for their community
  • Support and guide youth meetings and workshops, mentoring CCDC core youth leaders on how to facilitate and manage events
  • Under the supervision of Youth Program Manager, assist in coordinating youth service-learning events (i.e., intergeneration programming, SRO children's program for Super Sunday events, arts projects, pedestrian-safety education, Broadway Gardens, etc.) and assist in development of youth leadership training and workshops
  • Develop marketing and business goals for Chinatown Alleyway Tours (CATs)
  • Research, develop and implement marketing and business strategies to expand CATs program
  • Work with Senior Community Organizer to develop trainings for tour guides and provide mentorship to implement business and marketing strategies
  • Manage and maintain booking and database system, and provide needed analysis on budget, revenue, and expenses for the CATs program
  • Develop and build partnerships with other community-based organizations, educational institutions and tourism & hospitality businesses to market and promote tour
  • Update Chinatown Alleyway Tours’ social media platforms
  • Take lead on coordinating and planning Chinatown Alleyway Tours retreats
  • Coordinate monthly CATS meetings
  • Lead or supervisor tours on Saturdays as needed
  • Make presentations to funders as needed
  • Help write grants and reports as needed
  • Manage and coordinate regular maintenance for Broadway Gardens
  • Update signs, place orders for the Broadway Gardens if needed
  • Maintain and update invoice and photo database for the Broadway Gardens
  • Engage the community on the education and have conversations about Anti-Asian violence

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Analytical, coordination, & facilitation skills
  • Working knowledge of the Chinatown community and community issues
  • Sensitivity to the needs of low-income and Limited English proficiency populations
  • Cultural competency
  • Good listening skills and ability to exercise patience
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently as well as in team structure
  • Ability to be flexible and perform variety of activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in working/volunteering in the San Francisco’s Chinatown
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working with low-income youth
  • At least 1-2 years leading tours and/or making public presentations and/or working in the tourist, hospitality and/or public relations, customer service industry
  • Public speaking experience, strong written and verbal communications skills, and good interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs
  • Capacity to work evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of Chinatown neighborhood and community resources
  • Good computer skills, including facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher
  • Grant writing skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Studying business, marketing and/or hospitality
  • Bilingual in Cantonese and English
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of marketing, sales, public relations, entrepreneurship, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in layout, design, and web design
