Description

The Karen Horney Clinic is pleased to offer a fee for service psychodynamic psychotherapy training program. This program is for post-doctoral fellows, social workers, and mental health counselors interested in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic work. The Karen Horney Clinic's mission is to offer low-cost psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic services to individuals from all backgrounds and to provide training and opportunities for advanced mental health professionals. More information on the Karen Horney Clinic can be found at our website: http:www.karenhorneyclinic.org.

Clinical Experience

The Clinic serves a wide range of patients in terms of demographics and diagnosis. This is primarily an adult-orientated program; however opportunities for child and adolescent work may be available. Each psychotherapy session is 45 minutes in length and patients are seen at least once per week. Fellows are expected to have a minimum of 12 sessions scheduled per week. The Clinic is open Monday - Friday 9am – 9pm and fellows can generally schedule patients at their convenience. However, one evening until 9pm per week is required. In addition, patient hours must not conflict with didactic hours. We are mostly seeking therapists at this time to see patients Mondays and Fridays as well as evenings 6pm and later.

Didactics and Supervision

Beyond weekly individual and group supervision therapists enrolled in the training program attend a psychodynamic psychotherapy course, trauma class, staff meetings, and rounds, at no charge. Didactics and group supervision take place Wednesdays 10am – 1pm. There is an additional Case Seminar provided on Thursdays 1pm – 2pm, which is open to some fellows. Therefore, there are about 5 hours of didactics and supervision each week. Didactics formally begin in September 2018, however clinical work and training can start on a rolling basis before that time.

Benefits

This is a fee-for-service position with no additional benefits. Fees are based on experience with increases generally provided each year and upon licensure. In addition, fees are increased for evening sessions and based on frequency of sessions. Missed session fees are also provided. We are an OMH certified clinic; therefore hours are countable towards licensure. In addition, therapists have the opportunity to audit classes at the American Institute for Psychoanalysis (AIP). If fellows join the institute these credits go towards completion of their analytic training. We would like candidates to consider a 2 year commitment, at minimum, given that we are a long-term psychodynamic clinic prioritizing patient care.
