Cool Culture is seeking a full time Institutional Giving Manager. Come work with us!

ABOUT COOL CULTURE

Cool Culture is a long-trusted partner of families, educators, and cultural institutions with almost 20 years of experience in community-centered initiatives that promote equity in culture. Grounded in principles of social justice, we were founded in 2002 by trailblazing early childhood educators Edwina Meyers and Gail Velez to correct the historic and enduring disparities that exist in how communities and families are able to access institutions and secure the resources necessary to engage in artistic practice.

Today, Cool Culture’s mission is to amplify the voices of historically marginalized families and strengthen communities through art and culture, within cultural institutions and beyond. Each year, we partner with 400+ early childhood centers and Title I schools by offering 50,000 families unlimited free visits to a network of 90+ museums across New York City - increasing cultural equity and access for 150,000+ young children and their families. Annually, Cool Culture parents and children make more than 185,000 visits to partner museums.

Placing families at the center of our work, we form strategic partnerships with educators and schools, artists and cultural institutions, community leaders and community-based organizations, government officials and civic agencies. Through these collaborations, we harness art to build cultural awareness, inspire activism, and propel social change. Always exploring, we are continually highlighting the voices of the community and deepening our relationships with families, educators, and cultural anchors.

POSITION

Cool Culture is seeking an experienced and proven institutional fundraiser who will identify, cultivate and raise funds from foundations, corporations, government sources and elected officials. As a respected resource, thought leader and community partner with deep relationships with families, government, schools, institutions, and other community actors, Cool Culture is well-positioned to deepen its impact at a time when many of our partners are experiencing tremendous challenges due to the ongoing and disproportionate impacts of Covid-19 and racial reckoning that has followed. The Institutional Giving Manager will be responsible for managing a $1.5 million portfolio.

We are seeking a candidate with 3-5 years institutional fundraising experience with a preference for a background in nonprofit arts or social justice. Experience or interest in community-centered fundraising methodologies, socially engaged arts practices, and cultural organizing preferred. The ideal candidate will have a practice that is informed by a racial equity framework, and a deep understanding of equity and social justice that is actively integrated into their practice. They should bring experience partnering with BIPOC communities with demonstrated success cultivating community-centered, socially justice-aligned supporters. In line with this experience, they should enjoy working in an environment that privileges collaboration and interdependence over hierarchical structures and autonomy. The Institutional Giving Manager will report to the Director of Development.

Key skills and areas of expertise drawn from among the following:

  • Strategic, able to work with Executive Director, Director of Development and Cool Culture staff to identify organizational fundraising needs, evaluate assets, and develop a grants strategy to support long-term growth as outlined in Cool Culture’s three year plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, draft, edit, proofread communications (including letters of interest, proposals, and funder reports) in a timely manner.
  • Collaborative, able to work across departments to collect information to independently develop proposals, budgets and reports; comfortable with a flat structure that embraces the ethos that good ideas can come from anywhere.
  • Demonstrated track record in prospecting and generating support from new corporations, and foundations; strategically nurtures and develops funding relationships with integrity, rigor, and discernment.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs and interests of various constituents while coordinating and preparing senior leadership for donor meetings and site visits.
  • Detail oriented and deadline driven; able to manage the entirety of the institutional funding pipeline including prospecting, maintaining the grants calendar and timely proposal submissions, managing active grants and compliance with reporting requirements, and tracking progress towards revenue goals.
  • Entrepreneurial, proactive, and has an interest in contributing to the build out of rudimentary systems. Willing to build new systems as needed and to consistently update multiple tracking documents with pertinent information, correspondence, financial information, and documents related to funders and prospects. Experience in database and project management platforms is a plus.
  • Comfortable reading and creating budgets, and with general aspects of finance as they relate to fundraising.
  • Adaptable, responsive, proactive, and comfortable with change; can act and decide without having the full picture.
  • Flexible and open to feedback, and has the communications skills to manage up; can come with ideas and a specific plan.
  • Independent, with good work habits; should work far in advance.
