Reading Holiday Project/Barbershop Books (RHP/BB) is a fast-growing organization with a national footprint. RHP/BB creates child-friendly reading spaces in barbershops and trains barbers to support early literacy. Our mission is to help Black boys identify as readers by connecting books and reading to a male-centered space and by involving men in boys’ early reading experiences.

We are an innovative and award-winning start-up with a national brand that has recently been featured on CNN, The Today Show, and CBS. The Development Officer is a new position, responsible for building and executing the development plan, working directly with the part time grant writer to develop and track foundation grant proposals, and managing the information technology systems to support the function.

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED) and Chief Operating Officer, the Development Officer (DO) will spearhead development efforts as RHP/BB continues to grow. A new position in the organization, the DO will have the opportunity to build the development function for the organization.

This position is a full-time, primarily remote position with start date ASAP. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

●       Develop and execute RHP/BB's annual fundraising plan

●       Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations

●       Manage the implementation of Salesforce and oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing

●       Develop and support ED to maintain ongoing relationships with major donors

●       Creating and executing a strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors

●       Overseeing organization of special events

●       Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising

●       Prepare monthly/quarterly development reports for Executive team and Board of Directors

●       Serve as staff liaison to Board Fundraising Committee


Qualifications

●       BA (required), MA (a plus)

●       Four-plus years experience in development

●       Experience working with diverse populations

●       Passionate about nonprofit strategy

●       Excellent verbal skills, written communication, and computer skills

●       Comfortable managing multiple tasks and working independently

●       Detail oriented

●       Thrive in fast-paced and dynamic work environment

●       Team player

●       Knowledge of Salesforce preferred
