CityBridge Education’s vision is for the nation’s capital to be the first city-level proof point for an excellent, equitable education system. A Washington, DC-based nonprofit, we incubate the people, ideas, and conversations needed for equity-centered innovation in DC’s public schools and social enterprises. We do this by identifying talented leaders and school designers who can solve the educational needs and challenges of DC families, deploying particular effort to recruiting leaders of color. We then incubate and invest in the best of their ideas and, together, bring to market the next generation of transformational public schools and education ventures.
We believe the challenges facing DC’s young people can be solved both inside and outside of the traditional school building. To that end, in the fall of 2020 we launched CityBridge Ventures, a six-month incubation program to support entrepreneurs seeking to start non-school social ventures. During the pilot year, we set out to learn whether there would be demand for this type of programming, what key content would support the development of equity-centered education ventures, and how to integrate non-school start-up strategies and lessons into our overall incubation portfolio. In the pilot program, we incubated three early-stage ventures, providing them with funding, bi-weekly workshops, and one-on-one coaching. They concluded the six-month experience with a business plan and presented their venture in the inaugural Ventures Showcase. We are currently looking for an experienced leader who can build on the learning from our first year, quickly create relationships with our new cohort of entrepreneurs, and design programming that fosters innovation, inclusion, and excellence. This role comes with great autonomy and responsibility, as this person would be owning the design and execution of the Venture incubation program.
This is a DC-based position and will require living in the DC area by Fall 2021.
