Position Summary


NCTR is seeking an Associate Director of Marketing & Communications (“Associate Director”) to lead its strategic communications, branding, and marketing efforts for the organization and its network of partners. The Associate Director will lead in the development and implementation of an innovative and effective strategic communications plan to advance both our mission to build and support teacher residency programs, and our position as a national leader in this effort.  Through this work, the Associate Director will grow awareness of NCTR’s brand, expand NCTR’s reach and resources, and propel the teacher residency movement.

 

The Associate Director will be responsible for messaging, publications, earned media, social media, marketing, and interacting with the press. An immediate focus will be updating NCTR’s communications strategy with a focus on social media and the increasing visibility of NCTR’s Black Educators Initiative (BEI). The Associate Director will serve as lead writer for the organization and determine short- and long-term communications priorities with other leaders in the organization.

 

The Associate Director will manage and implement the organization’s newly developed communications strategy. Reporting to the Chief of External Relations Officer (CERO), the Associate Director will work closely with the CERO, providing strategic communications counsel. The Associate Director will collaborate across teams to increase the visibility of NCTR’s work, partnerships, and impact.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a communications plan for the organization to effectively message and share NCTR’s work with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Identify and generate written communications and messaging content
  • Collaborate with NCTR leaders on how to best externally communicate organization identity and ensure consistency across all forms of communication 
  • Provide communication support to the CEO, Chief External Relations Officer, and other staff
  • Secure and manage specialized contractors (such as designers or videographers)
  • Build NCTR’s earned media (drafting materials, pitching materials, responding to requests, and evaluating the impact of external communications via earned media) 
  • Build and manage media contacts
  • Compose and place opinion pieces
  • Position NCTR, its CEO, and partners to be the primary sources of information on teacher residencies and clinical preparation
  • Develop and implement a strategy to improve NCTR’s social media presence 
  • Manage creation and tracking of paid media
  • Manage and direct website updates, identifying needs, and creating content
  • Curate content and manage the weekly production and dissemination of NCTR’s weekly newsletters  
  • Create and manage publications (editing products, laying out publications in Canva for publication, and engaging designers)
  • Create and edit presentations for NCTR leadership
  • Create and maintain up-to-date marketing materials
  • Work with the CERO to implement newly-developed branding and branded materials across the organization
  • Use data to assess the return on investment of various communications/media efforts and make recommendations for communications strategy adjustments based on data 


Qualifications

  • Commitment to NCTR’s mission, vision, and diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field
  • At least 3-5 years of communications experience with progressively increased responsibilities
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing successful communications strategies to further the goals of a non-profit organization
  • Experience using social media to elevate the online presence of an organization 
  • Experience using a variety of communications-related tools, including WordPress, Canva, Elementor, and Mail Chimp 
  • Highly refined writing, copy editing, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information to multiple audiences 
  • A track record of being able to use data to inform decision-making with a focus on ensuring an organization is a good steward of funding allocated to support communications 
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative to find and effectively and creatively problem solve. 
  • Commitment to creating quality work products that reflect the mission and vision of an organization
  • The ability to quickly and effectively forge collaborative relationships with staff members and teams across a virtual organization
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a demanding workload and to produce both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to be influential and establish open lines of communication on the project teams and incorporate the perspectives of others, with a focus on considering who has been excluded and should be included 
  • A track record of being able to work independently in a virtual workplace and collaborating using virtual engagement tools

USD 75,000 - USD 90,000Salary is commensurate with experience.
