About the Position

Reporting to BRAC USA’s Senior Manager, Business Development, the Manager, Business Development will support the growth and progression of BRAC’s USAID portfolio. The Manager will track and identify USAID funding opportunities in BRAC countries, and to a lesser extent, Global Affairs Canada (GAC) funding opportunities and US State Department funding for humanitarian assistance. The Manager will help establish partnerships with key primes and other organizations to secure BRAC’s prepositioning for these opportunities. The Manager will support business development for USAID opportunities in BRAC countries – including, but not limited to, liaising with country teams and partners, leading proposal development processes, writing sections of various proposals, crafting proposal budgets, outreach to potential partners, and supporting capacity building of BRAC and BRAC International in winning projects. Although the Manager’s focus will be BRAC’s USAID portfolio more broadly, experience with USAID health programs and fundraising is strongly preferred.

Resource Mobilization and Partnership Development 

  • Cultivate and manage key donor and partner relationships and establish new relationships with peer organizations and strategic partners in North America and countries in which BRAC operates
  • Work with BRAC’s country teams to identify and address business development priorities and gaps, and support prepositioning and/or pre-bid work for USG opportunities (primarily USAID but could also include GAC and/or State Department opportunities), including:
  • Proactively engaging country offices to identify opportunities and reach out to in-country donors and potential partners 
  • Conducting market/donor landscape analyses
  • Developing capability statements
  • Supporting donor outreach
  • Traveling internationally for capture trips
  • Help define approach to teaming/partnering with other organizations on major USAID funding opportunities 
  • Support the development and roll-out of standardized USAID business development tools, systems and practices 
  • Lead or support proposal development for BRAC countries' priority programmatic areas (health, education, humanitarian response, youth empowerment and economic development) in close coordination with the programmatic leads in each thematic area, including:
  • Interpreting donor solicitations, rules, and regulations
  • Identifying resources required and securing all needed approvals prior to proposal development
  • Working closely with the country offices, head office and program staff to coordinate proposal timelines and roles and responsibilities.
  • Writing parts of the proposal, as needed 
  • Supporting budget development and reviewing budgets for donor responsiveness and alignment with technical narrative
  • Conducting reviews of proposals to ensure high quality submissions
  • Securing all needed approvals prior to proposal submission 
  • Support the review and negotiation of donor and partner agreements
  • Support quarterly reviews for donors
  • Support program staff in BRAC USA by guiding them on USAID proposal processes

Capacity Building of Country Programs 

  • Support country offices to pre-position for funding opportunities 
  • Work with country offices to network with donors and potential partners
  • Participate in capture visits on specific funding opportunities

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required + at least 6 years’ relevant experience or Master’s Degree/equivalent + at least 4 years’ relevant experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience in international development programming; experience managing complex proposals and working with multicultural teams preferred
  • At least 2 years’ experience in USAID business development is required; experience in USAID health fundraising preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of international development program design and proposal development.
  • Proven track record in USAID business development, including tracking and identifying opportunities; experience with reporting and grant management strongly preferred. 
  • Ability to facilitate project design and manage proposal development processes, including applying theories of change and project logic to design and develop work and management plans accordingly.
  • Well- developed budgeting/proposal pricing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to be a team player and to work independently and with initiative when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in ‘remote’ and diverse teams, including as team leader for proposals.
  • Diplomatic and highly effective on an interpersonal level in addition to cross-cultural sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding.
  • Highly organized, strategic thinker with strong attention to detail. 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, perform under pressure and prioritize with multiple competing demands and deadlines.
  • Complete heavy workload within established time frames.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, high-performing environment.
  • Willing and able to travel internationally with some frequency (30%) and with minimum notice (as COVID-19 conditions allow).
  • Willing and able to spend extended periods of time (up to 1 month) in-country to build capacity in priority country offices (as COVID-19 conditions allow). 
  • Strong command of Google Suite, MS Office. Experience with Slack, Salesforce or other collaboration platforms desired 

Location: New York, NY or Washington, DC preferred, open to considering remote locations in the US.
