Position Description: Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as part of the organization’s Leadership Team, the Director of Programming is a critical role for PAL as it responsible for the operational success of all PAL programming. This position “keeps all the trains running on time” by working closely with the Commanding Officer of the PAL Police Unit, to ensure PAL programming is consistently delivered across the City.
The Director manages full-time employees in the Programs Department and approximately 100 parttime staff and volunteers. The Director for this multi-site and multi-program organization, has an externally facing role managing relationships in the community. There also is a heavy emphasis on team management and development and establishing standards of performance across all programs while leading the implementation of the organization’s current strategic plan.
Specific Position Accountabilities: This position operates where the non-profit organization and the PAL Police Unit come together to deliver on the promise of Cops Helping Kids. To successfully fulfill that promise, the Director of Programming must be able to wear different hats at different times, build consensus, and motivate both civilian and police staff.
Overall Leadership: - Develop and implement strategies to leverage and maximize synergies among program areas (athletic, character-building, cultural) - Serve as a leader within the implementation of PAL’s strategic plan; serve on the PAL civilian Leadership Team; collaborate with Board leadership - Partner with PAL Police Unit leadership in managing center-based and city-wide programming, support staff, and volunteers.
Program Operational Management: - Co-prepare and co-manage PAL’s Programming budget with the PAL Police Unit Commanding Officer in conjunction with the Finance Department. - Co-create and co-manage PAL’s programming operations plan to ensure execution of programmatic priorities - Cultivate new and steward existing program partnerships - Develop and implement a program dashboard; establish consistent, objective program performance standards of accountability - Oversee PAL’s Volunteer Department and programming, including recruitment, clearance and certification processes, on-boarding, training and service support; ensure successful delivery of Volunteer Department special events Team Management and Development: - Lead and manage the PAL programs team, inclusive of full-time and center-based support staff to meet organizational expectations - Work with police leadership to assess the needs and opportunities within PAL centers and develop a support staff strategy. Recruit, hire, and implement center-based program staff plans.
Scholarship Program Management - Administer the PAL Scholarship Program; manage program evaluation; ensure successful delivery of PAL’s annual Scholarship Luncheon
Qualifications: - 10+ years of professional experience, including working with elementary, middle or high schoolaged children; experience working with children from diverse backgrounds - Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Education, Social Sciences or other relevant degree. - Knowledge of Out-of-School-Time programs, experience in sports-based youth development, a plus. - Exceptional project management, leadership qualities, communication and organizational skills - Demonstrated experience in program development and evaluation - Prior supervisory experience - Valid driver’s license and personal transportation is required to travel to various PAL centers, events and community meetings (Mileage reimbursement will be available) - Successful completion of a criminal background check
