 OPPORTUNITY

The Curriculum Specialist in Secondary Science will support teachers in the implementation of the Green Dot Science Program at multiple schools.

 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

> Provide teachers with coaching and support to implement grade level NGSS-aligned science instruction to all students, including English Learners, Standard English Learners, Gifted and Talented Students, and Students with Disabilities.

> Provide support and assistance to all school-site science teachers in the implementation of the Green Dot Science Program and benchmark assessments.

> Promote standards-based instruction by providing demonstration lessons, focused observations, and professional development on research-based instructional strategies and classroom practices and provide opportunities for teacher reflection.

> Assist with curriculum planning to ensure mastery of the NGSS standards and curricular materials.

> Assist teachers with the diagnosis of student difficulties in science with the use of student data and evidence and the planning of appropriate intervention strategies for diverse learners. 

> Work collaboratively with the Science Team, school site administration and department chairs/ teacher leaders to plan and facilitate science professional development.

> Collaborate with teachers and other members of the coaching team to develop science pacing guides and benchmark assessments for use across the organization.

> Engage in other duties relevant to the successful implementation of the Green Dot Science Program/Initiatives.

 QUALIFICATIONS

> You have four years of successful teaching of science at the secondary school level

> You hold a valid secondary science credential (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geosciences)

> A Master’s degree in Education (or related field) is preferred

> You hold the appropriate certification to teach English Learners (CLAD, BCLAD, SB1969 certificate, BCC or LDS certificate) or are willing to commit to gain certification within one year of assignment

> You are passionate about improving urban schools and driving education reform

> You have knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards and 3D instruction and assessment

> You have knowledge of differentiated classroom instructional practices that promote student academic success in science

> You have knowledge and understanding of the needs of a diverse student population (EL, SEL, SpEd, and gifted and talented)

> You have strong oral and written communication skills

> You are able to travel to other sites/locations

> You are experienced in collaborative planning and delivery of differentiated staff development to classroom teachers

> You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve

> You will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer
