WE ACT’s mission is to build healthy communities by ensuring that people of color and/or low income residents participate meaningfully in the creation of sound and fair environmental health and protection policies and practices.

WE ACT Vote 4 Change is a newly launched voter engagement initiative that builds on the more than three decades of work of WE ACT for Environmental Justice to build healthy communities by ensuring that people of color participate meaningfully in the creation of sound and fair environmental health and protection policies and practices. WE ACT Vote 4for Change was established to expand the voice and power of the black, Latinx, other people of color, and low income white residents of Northern Manhattan as they seek to secure environmental justice for the neighborhoods where they live.

WE ACT Vote 4 Change will enhance the work of WE ACT for Environmental Justice by expanding the advocacy, and voter engagement tools available to advance progressive policy change. WE ACT will reach out to and engage more voters of color in Northern Manhattan to build a stronger environmental justice movement and launch campaigns to move policy that result in: cleaner air, climate justice, healthy homes, energy democracy, elimination of toxic chemicals in personal care and household products, and a host of other environmental issues disproportionately impacting people of color in New York The goal of the next two years for this position is to mobilize and engage NYCHA residents to develop a northern Manhattan NYCHA Tenants Agenda to inform the 2021 New York city elections.

Primary Responsibilities:

·        Serve as the organizational point of contact for current and prospective Northern Manhattan and citywide elected officials on a bipartisan basis.

·        Manage our candidate briefings and community forums that inform voters on registration and the electoral process.

·        Draft, layout and produce a voter’s guide to inform the public.

·        Spearhead a robust voter registration and engagement process in Northern Manhattan

·        Write and implement a c4 campaign plan to raise the profile of WE ACT’s Healthy Homes campaign targeting the next Mayor of New York City and demanding improvements in NYCHA housing

·        Build and manage a database of local, state and federal elected officials

·         Track legislative and policy opportunities and victories

·        Develop and lead WE ACT for Environmental Justice’s candidate Campaign School and spearhead recruitment initiatives

·        Manage coalition engagement for the organization, as needed

·        File required reports to comply with state and federal regulations

Job Requirements:

·        At least five years' experience in federal, state, and local issue and/or electoral campaigns

·        Basic understanding of campaign finance laws regulating political activities

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills

·        Experience developing and administering voter education and training programs

·        Strong judgment, discretion and decision-making skills

·        Must be able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced quickly changing environment

·        Commitment to environmental and social justice and a clear understanding of WE ACT for Environmental Justice’s mission

·        Familiarity with VAN, Nationbuilder, Politco Pro, and voter engagement software
