Details: Pay is $25 / hour of prep and post work, $300 per workshop day, and travel expenses
**This position is available to anyone living in Los Angeles / Southern California. Must be able to travel occasionally.**
Art With Impact, a nonprofit organization working in the U.S. and Canada, is looking for facilitators for our college workshops - Movies for Mental Health - in California and nearby states. Our workshops use short film and dialogue to reduce stigma around mental illness, and connect college students with resources both on-campus and in their communities. Applicants welcome from throughout Southern California.
Art With Impact has conducted more than 220 Movies for Mental Health workshops over the past six years, refining and honing our model to ensure consistently positive results with our participants. Our workshops are dynamic, meaningful and powerful, so we look for facilitators who can command a room and engage the participants, while also having humility and holding the participants' experiences as the primary focus.
The ideal candidate for this position will be able to take our model and apply it successfully, while creatively observing themselves, the events and participant responses to discover areas of possible improvement. They will have excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team to grow this innovative program. Some workshops might require overnight travel, depending on the location of the workshop and where the facilitator lives. This position is best suited for someone with a flexible schedule and an ability to travel.
Communication with the Art With Impact team will take place over email and video calls, as well as an annual training in San Francisco January 12-13, 2019. This is a part-time contract position, with about 3 hours of prep-time and 3-hours of post-time (paid) for each workshop, and anywhere from 5-15 workshops per academic semester.
- Excellent public speaking and engagement skills
- Experience leading groups of people in dialogue-based learning
- Lived and / or professional experience with mental illness and maintaining mental wellness
- Art, film or media literacy background or experience
- Strong commitment to fostering mental wellness in college students
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout California (and potentially neighboring states) to college campuses to conduct workshops
- Strong organizational skills, experience coordinating events and keeping track of many details at once
- Ability to work independently while keeping team members, event speakers and other stakeholders informed and up to date with project-specific information
- College / university teaching or facilitating experience
- Enjoyment of administrative tasks, as there is the possibility for this role to grow to include workshop coordination as well as facilitation
