The Center for Food Safety (CFS) Pacific Northwest Office (Portland, OR) Program Coordinator will be responsible for implementing CFS’s core mission and program goals specifically in the Pacific Northwest region. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for mapping and building a regional program for CFS; facilitating CFS’s scientific, legal, and policy expertise; and leveraging CFS’s national programs and expertise to address the unique needs and opportunities within the Pacific Northwest. The Program Coordinator will work directly with CFS’s Legal Director and legal staff based in Portland, CFS’s regional development director, who is based in Hawaii, and CFS’s West Coast Director located in San Francisco.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting in the development of expanded CFS policy strategy for the Pacific NW region 
  • Assisting in development of local campaign strategies for CFS’s core issue areas, in particular factory farming, including within an existing campaign for a moratorium on mega-dairies in Oregon
  • Drafting and publishing CFS regional policy papers and issue reports
  • Assisting in fundraising and development, including regional events, grant-writing, and grant-reporting requirements
  • Implementing strategies for regional CFS membership 
  • Working with state legislatures on CFS issues, including developing relationships with federal and state elected officials
  • Cultivating existing relationships and building new partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Organizing regular educational and strategic-planning events 
  • Assisting in development of region-based media strategies 
  • Representing CFS at key regional food and agriculture hearings, meetings, and events
  • Providing office administrative support

DESIRED EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with food and agriculture policy at the federal, state, and county level
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with local and/or statewide policy initiatives including direct lobbying
  • Experience in high-level stakeholder outreach, including outreach to elected officials and other organizational leaders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail
  • Experience in strategic planning and annual budget development and management
  • Abilities to work both independently and collaboratively 
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field of study (desired, not required)
  • Commitment to and passion for CFS’s mission
  • Willingness to travel
  • Fluency in Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Spanish-language skills highly desired
