Family and Community Support Manager (Western Pennsylvania)

THE OPPORTUNITY ‍

We are hiring a Family and Community Support (FACS) Manager for Western Pennsylvania to help lead our programs in the region that address the isolation caused by incarceration for currently and formerly incarcerated people and their loved ones.

On any given day, 61,000 Pennsylvanians are incarcerated in state and county prisons. Incarceration in Pennsylvania has increased 400 percent since 1980. A critical component of our mission is to promote the understanding that when a person goes to jail, incarceration does not impact them alone but also their family and community. Family members are torn apart, income is lost, support systems are removed, and the people left behind incur the extra burden of supporting their loved one inside jail. This can have an extreme toll logistically, financially, and emotionally. The goal of the Prison Society's Family and Community Support programming is to build and repair bridges among people on the inside and their related communities. Fostering connection contributes to safer prison environments, supports successful reintegration, and reduces collateral harm to communities.

You will be part of a statewide team during an exciting phase of replication and growth. The Prison Society is queued up to launch mentoring programs in the Allegheny County Jail and two nearby state correctional facilities in mid 2025. These programs focus on building and strengthening social support networks as a foundation for returning citizens to be able to address the logistical aspects of returning to the community like housing and employment. These mentoring programs are currently operational in the Philadelphia region and recently underwent an independent evaluation. Key to your success will be the replication and implementation of these programs in the Pittsburgh region, strengthening relationships in the region, and working with Prison Society leadership to identify new opportunities for additional family & community support programming.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Implement programming for incarcerated people in Western PA in partnership with FACS Director. This includes interfacing with prison administrators, training and recruiting new facilitators, and weekly co-facilitation of programs in correctional facilities.
• Assess programs to ensure goals and outcomes are met through the delivery of high impact, replicable services.
• Track and manage metrics associated with program operations, outcomes, and grant reporting requirements.
• Build and maintain a robust network of community partners and resources to support family members and program participants post-release.
• Build and grow our network of volunteer mentors. Lead the recruitment of highly committed and skilled mentors in the region, and develop systems for engagement and coaching.
• Supervise and manage contracted facilitators to ensure that programs are delivered with fidelity and with the Prison Society voice.

Your Core Competencies

• At least three years of direct service experience. You are grounded in how to provide effective programming and are thoughtful about how to enable positive change in others’ lives. You have worked directly with clients through group facilitation and/or in a case management setting.
• You are organized with a keen attention to detail. You value accuracy and can manage paperwork, data, and competing deadlines. This includes managing reporting requirements for grants and program contracts.
• You are creative, resourceful and persistent. No two people will need the same thing, and you are well equipped to support a variety of needs and goals, despite personal or institutional barriers. You also know when to pivot when implementing new programs or when the service delivery environment changes.
• You collaborate with co-workers, volunteers and partner organizations. You know that this work cannot be done in a silo and have a demonstrated record in identifying partners and building referral networks.
• You care and connect with people in and coming home from prison, as well as with people working within them. You have a warm and professional demeanor that works well with different populations. You have a background in trauma-informed approaches.
• You have management experience. As the Prison Society continues to build out programming in Western PA, you are able to think creatively about how to structure and manage volunteers, consultants, and people interested in supporting our programs.

‍What You Need to Know‍

• Location This is a hybrid in-the-field/office position. You will work out a schedule with the Family and Community Support Director to include a few days a week in the field facilitating programs in prisons, as well as meeting with volunteers and community partners. Other days you may work from home, or we can identify a co-working space.
• Hours This position works 40 hours per week, primarily during regular business hours (9am-5pm), but the nature of a field based program will require occasional evening and weekend hours.
• Manager You will report to Kirstin Cornnell, Family and Community Support Director of the Prison Society.
• Salary & benefits $60,000 - $65,000. A flexible spending account, medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage provided as well as a retirement savings account.
