About Sadie Nash Leadership Project
Operating at the intersections of love and rigor, Sadie Nash Leadership Project provides award-winning experiential social justice education to over 700 young women and gender non-binary youth in New York City and Newark each year. We strengthen, empower, and equip our participants to lead lives in committed pursuit of joy and liberation for self and community. We offer a wide range of year-round programming including a nationally recognized six-week summer institute, in-school and after-school classes, paid internships at local organizations, college access and persistence support, and an advanced-level fellowship to design and implement an original social justice project.
Over the past three years, we have experienced significant growth. We have doubled the number of participants, broadened our scope beyond high school to include middle school and college students, and expanded our geographical footprint by launching two new Summer Institute sites in Queens and Brooklyn (in addition to existing sites in Manhattan and Newark.) Our full-time staff has grown from 5 to 12 people (with a projected increase to 14 by May) and we have more than doubled the number of part-time and seasonal staff (currently numbering more than 100.)
As we look towards 2020, we are operating with a more expansive, bolder definition of impact. We will continue to be a site for transformational social justice programming for youth. In addition, we recognize that we also serve as a testing and training ground for innovative and effective practices in curriculum development, research and evaluation, facilitator training and workplace and governance policies. Over the next two years, we are committed to sharing our approach and influencing national conversations around youth work, feminism, leadership, and equitable workplaces towards an orientation of joy and liberation.
Director of Strategic Advancement
We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Director of Strategic Advancement who will serve as the lead in developing and overseeing the fundraising and communications strategy needed to mobilize a $2.5 million annual budget. The Director of Strategic Advancement will report to the Executive Director and serve as a key member of Sadie Nash’s senior leadership team and is responsible for developing and implementing a bold fundraising and communication vision to advance the organization into 2020. You will lead and manage a team of two direct reports - the Director of Community Engagement and the Manager of Development and Communications.
- Work closely with Executive Director to develop a multi-year actionable fundraising plan reflecting a $2.5 million annual operating budget and strategies for growth within multiple revenue streams (foundations, government, corporate giving, individual, special events).
- Partner with Deputy Director to support new initiative to build a strategy for earned revenue
- Serve as staff liaison to Development Committee, coaching board members to set and reach ambitious fundraising goals
- Research cultivation and solicitation opportunities for individual and institutional donors.
- Review and analyze staffing needs and other resources (i.e. budget) to build short-term and long-term capacity to support fundraising strategy
- Work closely with ED to develop cohesive and compelling core messaging around Sadie Nash’s history and future that will guide development strategy and external communications going forward
- Identify and leverage opportunities to increase visibility of Sadie Nash with existing and new audiences
- Develop communications calendar and protocols for content dissemination across multiple platforms
- Serve as part of three-person senior leadership team (along with Director of Operations and Deputy Director) responsible for strategic decisions across the organization.
- Cultivate a culture of philanthropy across the organization; providing opportunities for full and part-time staff to better understand the relationship between fundraising and programs and how they can best engage.
What We Are Looking For
- A passion and deep alignment with SNLP's mission, social justice and feminism
- 7 to 10 years of relevant work experience, with at least 5 years of fundraising and communications experience reflecting a successful track record and a history of increased responsibility
- At least 3 years of supervision experience.
- Experience developing and managing an ambitious fundraising plan
- Experience developing and managing communications strategy
- Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships and successfully raising funds from individuals, foundations, corporations, and special events
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including high levels of responsiveness to requests from supporters and board members
- Experience designing and managing fundraising events
- Strong collaborative work ethic and relationship skills (working with staff colleagues, Board, funders, volunteers, and youth participants)
- Knowledge and experience with institutional and government funding opportunities in New York and New Jersey

Salary: $90,000 - $105,000
