Our mission is to end homelessness in the Washington, D.C. area by empowering people in need with the skills, tools and confidence to succeed. Together we use a range of media platforms to raise awareness and spotlight solutions to homelessness in our community.Street Sense Media creates content in print, film, theater, photography, audio, illustration and more, all for the purpose of providing economic opportunity for and elevating the voices of people experiencing homelessness. The content of our media center aims to challenge perceptions of homelessness and those it affects while creating common ground upon which we can build a stronger community
The Events and Workshop manager is a full-time, salaried employee. Working as part of a team, the person will market and promote the media center's offerings, especially theater performances, film screenings and photography exhibits to make sure we reach a wide and diverse audience. The person will schedule, plan organize and staff these events, often held in the evenings and occasionally on weekends. The person is the main point of contact with and support to our Artists in Residence, skilled professionals who volunteer their time to teach media skills to our homeless vendors during weekly workshops. Additionally, they will promote the workshops to our vendors to increase enrollment.
The position also leads the planning and implementation team for our annual celebration event, held each fall, in which we gather a large audience for an evening of performances, networking and fund raising.
