Community Legal Services, Inc. (CLS) is a private, non-profit law firm dedicated to providing excellent, free legal services to low-income Philadelphians since 1966. Our mission is to fight poverty, challenge systems that perpetuate injustice, and change lives though cutting-edge advocacy and exceptional legal representation. 

CLS is seeking an enthusiastic Bookkeeper with 1-2 years experience to work on-site in our Center City office full time, Monday through Friday. The candidate should have a commitment to client service, deadlines, a willingness to learn and accept new challenges, and be a flexible, highly organized, self-starter who is able to handle multiple projects.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The bookkeeper’s responsibilities will include:

·      Entering and issuing invoices and credit memos with SAGE and SAP Concur Online systems

·      Managing all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting processes including but not limited to A/R and journal entries

·      Processing and paying all invoices in a timely manner

·      Analyzing ledgers and correcting errors

·      Working with various departments within the organization to gain an understanding of business activity and reconciliations

·      Assisting in monthly closing procedures

·      General customer service and handling internal client requests

·      Maintaining accounting procedures and policies and systems of internal controls to ensure the integrity of all financial systems

·      Performing other office tasks and duties as needed (scanning, filing, etc.) and assigned


The ideal candidate will have the following skills and abilities

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization.

·      Strong attention to detail

·      Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills with the ability to multi-task and manage priorities and workflow

·      Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles

·      Proficiency in SAGE and/or SAP Concur

·      Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)

·      Understanding of and commitment to CLS’s mission

·      Action and solution-oriented


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·      Minimum Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business administration, or equivalent business experience with a non-profit organization.

·      Minimum 1-2 years accounting or bookkeeper experience

This is a full-time position. The current minimum starting salary is $32,000 for entry-level applicants but that salary is subject to change or adjustment if an applicant has relevant years of experience.
