    Description

    Black Girls Do Stem is a new and growing non-profit that seeks to change the face of the STEM industry. The BGDSTEM day program offers middle school-aged black girls hands-on opportunities to explore STEM careers across various industries. Team members share a deeply-held passion for a new normal where there is an equitable representation of black women across all STEM fields. BGDSTEM offers the opportunity for team members to lay the foundation for expansion and growth within the organization as leaders in their functional areas and collaborative stakeholders in continuous improvement.

    About the Position:

    The Program Coordinator manages all program logistics. The person in the role should be excited to multi-task - regularly move between operational planning, system creation, and implementation of programs. They will support an environment that motivates team members, volunteers, and program participants to bring the organization’s mission to life. Successful candidates will possess a background in managing the behind-the-scenes details required for programmatic success, including operations and communications, and a strong desire to continuously improve program operations to best serve participants and their families.

    Responsibilities

    Program Management:

    • Develop and maintain program materials around operations, such as the policy handbook and parent and student agreements
    • Manage applications and on-going family communication
    • Plan towards program milestones and deadlines to facilitate program continuity
    • Manage calendar, reporting, budgeting and evaluation for each program and its associated activities through use of a project management tool.
    • Ensure program operations and activities are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations and provide for the safety and well-being of all participants; manage all incident reports
    • Collect, synthesize and report on family, participant, volunteer, and staff attendance and satisfaction to inform organization-wide decision-making and operational improvements
    • Audit and recommend new organizational processes, systems, and tools in order to maximum efficiency in programming operations

    Program Delivery:

    • Utilize standard processes to prepare for weekly and monthly programs including site management, volunteer and participant attendance, transportation and materials management
    • Create and implement strong routines that maximize the time participants, volunteers and staff spend focused on instruction and engagement
    • Maintain, replenish, transport, and successfully keep an up-to-date inventory of program materials

    Stakeholder Communication:

    • Ensure families and participants have regular, streamlined communication and a familiar face for attendance and logistic concerns
    • Coordinate with community partners to provide families with additional resources
    • Collaborate with transportation provider, school districts and community centers to ensure services are consistent, timely and support optimal program execution

    Qualifications

    • Strong belief in the mission of BGDSTEM
    • At least 2 years of demonstrated success in a fast-paced, user-centered environment such as a non-profit, after-school program, political campaign, or grassroots policy organization
    • Background in data collection, entry, analysis, and reporting
    • Track record of creating, implementing and updating plans to achieve program goals

    Preferred start: November 2024

    Working Conditions and Benefits

    • In-person work, including at least two Saturdays a month which are followed by a Monday off
    • Technology to support work including Google Chrome Book, headphones, and internet services are included as part of the role; a $250 office supply budget annually
    • Gradual-release onboarding period followed but ongoing individual and organization-wide professional development and learning opportunities
    • Weekly check-ins and support from an internal manager and dedicated professional development time with an external coach
    • Medical insurance is paid in part by BGDSTEM, active 30 days after beginning employment; additional employee-paid supplemental insurance options are also available
    • Paid leave including a 5-day holiday organization-wide, 10 additional federal holidays, and 5 sick days per year available January 1; 5 days of paid vacation leave which accrued across the year.
    • Use of a personal vehicle for work travel and a personal cell phone are required for the role
