The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) is a non-partisan, non-profit statewide organization founded in response to the 1996 passage of federal immigrant and welfare laws that profoundly affected immigrants. CIPC helps to develop and support pro-immigrant public policy that aims at improving the quality of life for all Californians. CIPC also provides technical assistance, training and education on immigrant issues.


POSITION SUMMARY

Located in Oakland, the Organizer in Northern California is a member of CIPC’s statewide organizing team. She will work to build regional power for moving the immigrant rights agenda forward by supporting the work of the policy campaigns ranging in issues from detention and deportation, economic justice, and health and public benefits.

In addition, this organizer supports the efforts to manage diversity of groups, retention, and political development of the organizations in the regions where CIPC organizes community groups to build common cause of an increasingly progressive immigrants’ rights agenda.


RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Represent CIPC in local, regional, and state immigrant rights and budget coalitions;

•     Join and support networks of base building community groups and immigrant-serving organizations to organize and mobilize immigrant-related policy and budget issues;

•    Assist local partners in developing new regional networks in burgeoning areas;

•    Develop new relationships with diverse community stakeholders and convene meetings and conference calls to promote communication;

•    Grow CIPC’s organizational membership in the Northern California regions;

•    Develop and conduct trainings on CIPC legislative priorities as well as related issues in partnership with allies;

•    Play a supporting role in organizing CIPC’s annual Immigrant Day of Action in Sacramento;

•    Stay informed about key immigrant rights and state budget issues as they impact immigrant communities;

•    Provide programmatic support within CIPC’s Organizing Unit;

•        Is a resource for, and provides trainings and technical assistance to members; community based organizations, and other partners on various issues across the state:

o  Proactively engages with partners to assess needs;

o  Engages in research, collecting data and information on existing policies;

o  Develops and collects materials for outreach and political development of member orgs;

•        Uses digital organizing tools to recruit volunteers, promote events, and build narrative power


QUALIFICATIONS

Senior Organizer

•        Minimum of three years’ experience in effective organizing & coalition building for immigrant rights, health policy, racial justice, and/or economic justice and a demonstrated ability to lead;

•        Ability to facilitate and engage broad coalitions and experience working with diverse communities and audiences is required;

•        Ability to develop educational and outreach materials;

•        Ability to conduct effective outreach and relational organizing in another language, especially Spanish, is strongly preferred;

•        Experience working with immigrant rights organizations and community-based groups in California is preferred;

•        Experience participating in legislative and/or budget advocacy efforts in California is preferred;

•        Experience leading digital organizing actions is preferred;

•        Experience with a CRM platform and building lists (e.g. EveryAction, VAN, PDI, Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) is preferred;

•        Ability to travel frequently and on short notice is required;

•        Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle with insurance and ability to drive long distances on freeways, is required.
