Position Description:

ACEEE seeks a senior research analyst to engage in research, policy development, and outreach on federal energy efficiency policy in the United States. This is an exciting position for someone looking to have real-world impact by advancing effective programs and policies that benefit consumers and the climate. The person in this position will coordinate and steer a variety of research and outreach projects, working closely with energy efficiency experts in the federal policy program, other ACEEE policy and technical teams, and external organizations.

The core responsibilities of the position include

  • Conducting research on federal regulatory issues and programs, including the role of energy efficiency in federal housing, industrial, climate, health, and finance and securities programs
  • Conducting research on federal energy efficiency policies, including estimating energy savings, emissions reductions, and equity impacts from proposed energy efficiency legislation
  • Providing comments on proposed regulations and engaging in outreach to federal agencies and Congress
  • Developing policy fact sheets, blog posts, and funding proposals and reports 

The analyst will work on projects of high visibility in the energy efficiency and policy communities. The position includes engagement with national leaders in energy efficiency as well as an opportunity to develop expertise in multiple policy and research areas.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

  • Highly analytical and detail oriented. The analyst will conduct rigorous and peer-reviewed primary research dealing with complex quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills. The analyst is expected to produce detailed research reports, white papers, fact sheets, and regulatory comments, and to present research results to policymakers through presentations, webinars, and blog posts.
  • Superb organizational and project coordination skills. The position requires experience coordinating complex, long-term projects that involve multiple colleagues. The analyst must balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. The analyst will coordinate and collaborate with numerous ACEEE staff members on research projects. The analyst must also maintain relationships with external stakeholders to inform research and broaden the impact of ACEEE research and technical assistance.
  • Highly motivated self-starter. The analyst must be able to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Quick learner. The analyst will do work related to multiple economic sectors and types of policies and will need to quickly learn policy details, data sources, and analysis methods.
  • Passion for the environment and social justice. The position requires a strong commitment to advancing policies and programs that fight climate change and are equitable and inclusive.
  • Policy oriented. The analyst will need to develop policy ideas and understand the economic, environmental, equity, and political implications of policy proposals.

Qualifications:

Required:

·      Educational or work experience in policy research and advocacy, or energy and environmental studies, including one of the following:

o Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of relevant work experience, or

o Master’s degree in a relevant field and three years of relevant work experience, or

o PhD and one year of relevant work experience

·      Ability to do spreadsheet analysis of energy policy impacts

 

Preferred:

·      Experience with U.S. federal policy development and regulatory and legislative processes

·      Knowledge of and experience with U.S. energy efficiency policies, programs, and regulations

·      Knowledge of and experience with U.S. housing, industrial, climate, health, equity, or finance and securities policies

 

Preferred start date: on or about June 2021  

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary range is $58,271 - $87,406. ACEEE’s generous benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan; transportation and bike share benefits; and three weeks of vacation in the first year and four weeks thereafter.
