The External Affairs Manager/Senior Manager/Director (title commensurate with experience) will work closely with the Executive Director, staff, and the Board to drive ArtBridge’s continued growth as a leading public art nonprofit in New York City, dedicated to transforming the city’s 300+ miles of construction fencing. This position coordinates development, public relations, and marketing efforts, aiming to increase funding from sponsors and donors.

ArtBridge’s office is in Chelsea, NYC, with its work almost exclusively within the 5 boroughs. Pandemic-permitting, work will be a combination of remote and in-office. Working with a dynamic small staff in an open office environment, the applicant must be both a self-starter and a willing collaborator. This position is an exciting opportunity to be an external ambassador for a rapidly growing nonprofit, whose work is highly prominent. You will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders – from donors and Board members, to government agencies, real estate developers, and corporate sponsors – in order to increase the ArtBridge’s funding and presence within the public art landscape.  

Job functions include: 

  • Identify and seek media opportunities.
  • Work with the Executive Director to cultivate existing donors, and identify new donors.
  • Spearhead the development of new fundraising events and donor/sponsor memberships.
  • Oversee marketing and communications direction, including working with ArtBridge’s social media manager to develop content for ArtBridge’s website, social media, and traditional media channels.
  • Develop marketing and promotional materials for sponsors and donors. 
  • Represent ArtBridge at functions and in donor meetings.
  • Collaborate with staff to devise public programs and events, and organizational direction.  

Required experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years with progressive responsibility in the arts or nonprofit sectors, with a role centered on development, communications, marketing, and/or events.
  • Established relationships and networks with key stakeholders including donors, journalists, and/or arts leaders in the region.
  • Quantifiable history of impacting organizational growth.
  • Ability to provide strategic direction and create a work environment that enables the organization to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to work under pressure and enable teamwork.
  • Dedicated to promoting a culture free of bias and injustice, putting equity at the core of all decisions and actions.
  • Proficiency with Adobe CS and experience with a CRM system.  
  • Knowledge of New York City and its diverse array of neighborhoods and communities.

Salary: $90k - $110k + benefits

ArtBridge empowers local artists to transform prominent urban spaces, primarily by turning construction fencing into canvases for art. Founded in 2009 by artist and designer Rodney Durso, ArtBridge’s exhibitions prioritize the social impact of its exhibitions, aiming to amplify voices that have been historically marginalized. ArtBridge’s programs include Bridging the Divide – an exhibition/fellowship program at public housing developments, for which it recently received a $1 million grant from the City of New York.
