ABOUT ONE LOVE
One in three women and one in four men experience relationship abuse in their lifetime. Young women ages 16-24 are at three times greater risk. Three women a day are killed by their partners in the U.S. alone. The statistics around relationship abuse make it a public health epidemic that all of us have a stake in changing.
One Love exists for one reason: Yeardley Love was killed, and her death was avoidable if anyone in her life understood the warning signs of an unhealthy and increasingly dangerous relationship. This realization – that Yeardley’s death might have been prevented – is the driving force behind our work to educate young people about relationship abuse and rally them in a campaign that can change the statistics.
What started in 2010 out of a family’s wish to honor their daughter, expanded in 2015 into a national educational campaign to improve young people’s understanding of healthy versus unhealthy relationships. Using emotionally compelling content, and a peer workshop model, we are reaching hundreds of thousands of young people, teaching them how to recognize signs of abuse, and providing them with the language and tools required to navigate these relationships.
Across the country, communities are engaging in this conversation. Over the last three years, more than 300,000 young people have completed our “Escalation” workshop in person; nearly 15,000 people have joined Team One Love to continue the conversation in their community after the workshop is completed; 16,000 facilitators have been trained to lead workshops, and our #ThatsNotLove digital campaign has had over 85 million views online.
As we continue to scale this campaign, engaging even more young people as leaders of this work, we are focused on ensuring the campaign reflects the perspectives and interests of all who are impacted by this issue. Working closely with individuals at schools and colleges, youth-facing organizations from churches to after school programs to community agencies, and domestic violence advocates across the country, we will reach more people and engage more voices in what can be a truly human campaign for change. Together we can change the statistics and end relationship abuse.
ABOUT THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
One Love’s campaign is equal parts national and local in its scope. Nationally, One Love has created a mission, messaging and educational tools that standardize the language we use to teach young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships. Locally, One Love works on the ground with young people, schools, youth-facing community groups and social service partners to ensure that our programs are used in a way that is right for each community. Starting in 2017, One Love established on-the-ground teams in four cities to increase the velocity of our efforts in engagement and activation. By serving communities full-time, we know we can amplify a conversation about relationships that is changing and saving lives.
In each regional office, Executive Directors are the lead architects and builders of the local campaign, charged with expanding, diversifying and deepening participation. True believers in our approach to prevention, Executive Directors play a critical business development/evangelist role, resourcefully identifying new ways to expand One Love’s educational footprint and raise funds to support both local and national work. Understanding that collaboration and partnership are at the core of our work, EDs also oversee our program outreach efforts, experimenting with new strategies to engage individuals and partner organizations in deeper and mutually beneficial ways. Their on-the-ground efforts can then be used as models for community engagement in other cities as well.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & OUTCOMES:
- Develop and execute on a three-year strategic plan that will articulate a vision for One Love’s regional growth in four key areas:
- education of young people
- recruitment and development of local leaders to drive the movement
- expansion of partnerships with key stakeholders from domestic violence partners to youth facing community organizations
- expansion of the financial base of support for this work
- Build a local office, including the support and management of a high performing team on the ground
- Develop a localized strategy to enhance to brand awareness and mission value proposition
- Develop and manage relationships with key individual, corporate and foundation funders
- Develop and manage large, local fund raising and educational events
- Act as local advocate for this work recruiting collaborators who share our vision and believe in the power of communities, and young people in particular, to achieve ambitious goals
- Recruit and develop local volunteer leaders and engage them with local leadership roles
- Closely collaborate with One Love national’s leadership team as well as other Regional EDs to continue to:
- iterate and evolve our model for impact
- innovate to develop new approaches to education and engagement o honestly assess how goals are being met
- Work closely with other EDs to understand what is working or not working so that best practices can be shared across the country
- Keep a constant eye on progress in order to develop more concrete measures of success in changing the statistics around relationship abuse
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES:
Professional Qualifications and Experience
- 15 years professional experience in business development, community engagement, fundraising and partnership development and/or related fields
- Accomplished in building or scaling, including in early stage contexts
- Successful track record of fundraising, community engagement and expansion
- Experienced in balancing creativity, strategic planning, and execution (imagining, planning, and doing) simultaneously
- Has leveraged promising early engagement into something permanent and impactful
- Exceptional relationship manager who can recruit a diverse collection of individuals, schools, foundations, and organizations to this cause

- Deep passion for One Love’s mission and movement
- “Big thinker” with a strong interest in overseeing the growth of the campaign locally through programmatic expansion, growth of the fundraising base, and empowerment of local leaders

- Energized by fluidity, and highly adaptable to rapidly evolving and changing environments
