JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Security Guard is responsible for providing security in the Providence House Supportive Housing facility serving homeless clients, both individuals and families, with substance abuse/or psychiatric disorders. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Man a post to maintain building access control, detect fires, and/or prevent vandalism, theft, or infractions the rules.
  • Conduct security rounds and monitor security cameras, enforce facility rules and regulations for residents and visitors, communicate to supervisor and all pertinent staff of all incidents, situations or conditions that might affect the safety and security of residents and staff.
  • Give direction to visitors when requested.
  • Provide timely and effective responses to resident emergencies, including appropriate and effective response to physical or verbal altercations between residents, effective interventions in medical emergencies, appropriate and mandated responses to cases of neglect or abuse involving children, act as liaison with police and other emergency services, and serves as a designated fire safety coordinator for the facility.
  • Maintain the appropriate paperwork i.e., incidents reports for Providence House, logging-in and monitoring visitor activity; report shift activity in communication log book, signing visitors in and out of facility; and reporting activity that takes places during rounds.
  • Provides night, weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
  • Attend supervisory sessions with supervisor and contribute to the achievement of facility goals.
  • Related duties as assigned.

Sanctuary Model:

  • Effectively use and practice Sanctuary Models tools; safety plans, community meetings, psycho-educational groups, team meetings, red flags reviews, and self-care in the program to create a non-violent and trauma sensitive culture.
  • Promote and model the core values of Providence House Mission (Compassion, Non-Violence, Hospitality, and Community) and the Seven Sanctuary Model Commitments to create a non-violent and trauma sensitive culture.
  • Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.

Team/Staff Relations

  • Work as a Providence House team member with all staff and volunteers in order to implement the mission and core values of the agency.
  • Attend regular internal and external agency meetings as required.

Administrative

  • Keep accurate, up-to-date security logs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma, GED
  • Must have current New York State Security Guard License and Certificates and maintain registration each year.
  • New York State Fire Guard Certification a plus.
  • Minimum of one year experience in providing security services
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer Literate

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-Time Position is (8am – 4pm) & (12am – 8am)
  • The office location for this position in Brooklyn, New York.
