ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties listed below are intended as examples of the types of work that may be performed by the Director of Communications & Engagement but are not all necessarily performed and do not include all specific functions and responsibilities that the Director of Communications & Engagement may be expected to perform.

Communications

· Build broad public awareness of, brand identification with, and support for the Delaware Center for Justice (DCJ), its renewed mission and vision, and the experience of clients we serve.

· Design, steward, and implement the ongoing communications and strategic engagement plans of DCJ in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

· Work with DCJ staff and partners to listen to and amply the voices of our clients and other

representatives of Delaware’s impacted communities.

· Establish DCJ as a leader in advocacy and service through all available channels, including but not

limited to:

o Printed publications, including brochures, annual reports, briefing papers, and fact sheets

o DCJ’s website, e-newsletter, and social media platforms

o Publicity, advertising, public information programs, awards, and promotional activities

o Podcast and video production

o Media relations, including interviews, articles, and opinions

Engagement

· Ensure that DCJ’s communications and engagement initiatives fully align and strengthen the

organization’s policy agenda, direct service programs, and partnerships.

· Develop and manage positive and effective relationships with public, private, corporate,

· philanthropic, and nonprofit sector partners to advance DCJ’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

· Work closely with the Executive Director to carry out DCJ’s annual development plan.

· Plan and facilitate meetings and conferences with a broad variety of client, partner, and stakeholder groups.

· Other duties as specified.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

· Communications, public relations, community organizing, and/or advocacy experience required. Fundraising experience preferred.

· Basic computer skills, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as Zoom/Skype and other distance meeting resources; must possess a willingness to learn about and use new tools as they become available. Social media proficiency a must.

· Ability to multitask and work both independently and with supervision, on-site and remotely.

· Embrace an understanding of justice involvement that acknowledges the impact of institutional racism and the systemic oppression of BIPOC, women, and LGBTQ+ people; must share the belief that people can change in positive ways.

· Must have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter with a positive attitude, with a good sense of humor.

· Strong team building, communication, organization, and writing skills are essential.
