Prevention Coordinator

Organizational Overview:

Founded in 2000, the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault’s (the Alliance) mission is to prevent sexual violence and reduce the harm it causes through education, research, and advocacy.

The Alliance works closely with the city’s rape crisis programs and hospitals, District Attorney’s Offices, New York Police Department, court officials and city leaders to develop and implement best practices and policies, raise public awareness, and create sustainable change for survivors. Through training, advocacy and research, the Alliance has been an active force in fighting for recognition of the magnitude of the problem of sexual violence in New York City (NYC).

Position Overview:

The Alliance is one of the six New York State Department of Health designated Regional Centers for Sexual Violence Prevention serving NYC communities, which includes two major components: 

 1. Project Dream, Own, Tell (DOT) workshops for youth ages 13-21 that focuses on community change strategies to mobilize youth and influential adults in their lives. The focus is on underserved communities in NYC that are at high risk of sexual assault.

 2. A nightlife initiative that trains establishment staff to respond and prevent sexual misconduct in nightlife spaces.

The Prevention Program Coordinator will be responsible for leading the coordination of prevention activities for the nightlife initiative and will collaborate with the Senior Prevention Coordinator to managing training, evaluation, and outreach components of Project DOT. The Prevention Program Coordinator will manage the day-to-day program administration and facilitate communication between and among the subcontracting partners, consultants, funders, and the Alliance to ensure that the program goals and objectives are met. Additionally, they will represent the Alliance at multiple coalitions/partnerships.


Specific responsibilities inherent to the position include: 

  • Coordinate ensure timely completion of program activities, including: 
  • Co-lead nightlife sexual violence prevention effort with partner agencies to ensure prevention activities are timely delivered;
  •  Facilitate Project DOT youth workshops, coordinate youth recruitment, and build/ maintain strong relationships with partner agencies.
  •  Facilitate communication among program partners, including working closely with partners to ensure timely completion of deliverables and organize/ lead ongoing coalition/ partnership meetings;
  • Support program evaluation activities, including collecting and compiling evaluation data from all subcontracting partner organizations, conducting focus groups, and generating summary reports in collaboration with partners;
  • Prepare quarterly grant reports; and assist with preparing grant proposals upon request;
  • Provide prevention training to various constituents and facilitate coalition-building activities related to this program;
  • Work with the Senior Prevention Coordinator and Assistant Director of Programs to manage contractors/consultants and monitor their programming and deliverables on all prevention related grants;
  • Work collaboratively with program staff and consultants to ensure seamless program implementation;
  • Represent the Alliance at various prevention events, conferences, coalitions and taskforces;
  • Support interns/volunteers as necessary;
  • Collaborate with Alliance staff on shared program goals.


Qualifications/Skills:

  • 3+ years of training and experience working in the fields of public health, social justice, survivor advocacy, sexual violence, and/or community engagement/ organizing;
  • Prior experience working with youth from diverse communities required;
  • Prior experience working in/with the nightlife community a plus;
  • Demonstrated experience delivering presentations, trainings and workshops to diverse audiences;
  • Prior experience managing or participating in public health related social-media campaign is a plus;
  • Experience and knowledge in evaluation tools and data collection methods helpful;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Sensitivity to the impact of sexual violence in diverse communities and the ability to articulate these concerns to various stakeholders in a sensitive and respectful manner;
  • Dedication to using a social justice, anti-oppression, anti-racist framework to carry out work. 


Compensation:

Compensation for this position is $65,000 and includes a competitive benefits package.

 

Working Environment:

As the Alliance restarts operations, the organization is operating in a full-remote capacity. Once programming has fully restarted, we anticipate offering a mixture of in-person and virtual training opportunities for the communities and organizations we serve. As a result, staff will have access to flexible, hybrid work schedules, though occasional in-person meetings and training sessions will be necessary.
