Mobility Mentoring Center Outreach Coordinator – Full-time

This position is a key member of the Mobility Mentoring Center team (MMC), located at EMPath’s Boston downtown office. MMC is made up of specialists with expertise in employment, education, and financial literacy, as well as other skills to help low-income families set and attain goals to move them along the pathway to economic independence. MMC also provides training to EMPath staff and participants to increase their knowledge in these areas, and its specialists work with individuals who receive one-on-one coaching and referrals to robust community resources that will help them and their families get ahead.

 The Outreach Mentor will assist and support EMPath’s community outreach and recruitment efforts for all MMC initiatives. The MMC Outreach Mentor will also provide career support to participants and work with them to identify, obtain, and retain sustainable employment, education, and training opportunities.

 Hours: Full-time; must be available to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings (until 7:30pm) as needed to accommodate participants’ schedules, within a 40 hour work week.

Outreach/Recruitment duties (70%) will include:

Collaborate and engage with EMPath housing mentors and shelter program participants to identify Mobility Mentoring Center candidates

Conduct outreach, recruitment, and engagement of participants interested in receiving MMC services

Promote awareness of MMC services and other benefits, as well as expectations and requirements

Conduct outreach to candidates in person and by phone and email

Attend EMPath community meetings, program meetings and other events as needed

 Track information and outcomes in database systems

Provide continuous follow-up and support to participants to deepen engagement

 Career Mentoring duties (30%) will include:

 Provide high-quality, individualized career coaching and confidence-building to low-income adultsOffer one-on-one services including resume and cover letter development, job search support, interviewing prep and practice, and managing workplace culture/employers’ expectations.

 Provide referrals to education and job training resources, including vocational training programs, HiSET/ESOL, and college certificate and degree programs

  Work collaboratively and coordinate services with DTA, DHCD, Career Centers and other community-based workforce development partners to create, provide, and maintain employment opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  Experience in recruitment and community outreach; ability to create and develop relationships with all levels of staff

 High degree of cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with families from diverse cultural, socio-economic, ethnic and educational backgrounds. Experience working with populations that have experienced trauma and/or crises preferred.

 Effective and creative problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

 Proven experience promoting career development and advancement, including knowledge of workforce development, education, and career exploration.

 Ability to engage, assess, motivate, and support participants using advocacy and coaching skills that are compassionate, strengths-based, and non-judgmental

 Superior verbal/written communication skills, including grammatical, writing, editing and proofreading skills necessary for creating and revising resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, and more

 Strong computer skills, including data entry, with solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to work collaboratively as an active member of a team in a fast-paced, changing environment, as well as to work independently.  

Outstanding time management skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

 Expectation to travel between multiple program sites within the Greater Boston area and to work flexible hours.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required. Two years of experience in career coaching, career counseling, and/or recruitment. Will consider more experience in lieu of formal education.

 Experience promoting economic mobility among low income families strongly preferred
