Bilingual Legal Assistant / Paralegal

The Immigration Center for Women and Children (ICWC) seeks a full-time legal assistant to work with attorneys, staff and student interns in our San Francisco office. ICWC is a Department of Justice (DOJ) Recognized Organization and provides the opportunity for legal assistants to become DOJ Accredited Representatives.

ICWC is a non-profit legal organization providing affordable immigration services to underrepresented immigrants in California. ICWC strives to provide security and stability for children who are abused, abandoned or neglected and for immigrants who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other violent crimes. The offices primarily work with federal immigration laws that allow victims to apply for work authorization, travel visas, humanitarian parole, permanent residency, and citizenship. Duties and Responsibilities: 

1.     Assisting attorneys with client intake, completing legal forms with clients, drafting legal documents, gathering evidence and preparing cases for filing.

2.     Writing client declarations and translating documents from Spanish to English.

3.     Performing other administrative duties including maintaining records and filing systems, answering telephones and processing mail.

Qualifications:

1.     Four year college bachelor’s degree.

2.     Fluency in both Spanish and English. The position requires the ability to communicate daily through oral and written communications in both Spanish and English. The legal assistant will meet independently with monolingual Spanish speakers.

3.     Entry level or more experienced: 0-5+ years’ experience in an immigration law office

Salary

At least USD 40,000Salary is commensurate with experience.
