Description

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant will perform critical tasks for the Finance Department. The individual will work independently and collaboratively to meet competing deadlines and assist with a variety of projects. This role is deadline-driven and requires the ability to be proactive, multitask, and shift priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented team player who is a highly organized self-starter.


Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Account & Budget Maintenance

•        Manage the monthly financial closing, including entries, financial statement preparation and general ledger maintenance

•        Assist with the annual budget process

•        Perform analysis of accounts, both repetitive reconciliations and those requested by the CFO

•        Maintain funds in accordance with donor restrictions

•        Assist with year-end audit preparation and tax schedules


HR & Benefits Assistance

•        Manage biweekly processing of payroll, including administration of staff time records and processing of new hires and terminations

•        Prepare human resource communication to employees

•        Keep current with employment laws

•        Liaise with health insurance agents and benefits vendors, including renewal management

•        Assist with preparation of reports for compensation and benefit matters

•        Assist with management of consultants and temporary employees

•        Manage all state and federal reporting requirements


Accounts Payable & Invoice Management

•        Manage accounts payable process, including maintaining vendor records, processing invoices, verifying proper authorization and coding of all disbursements, and processing payments on time

•        Manage expense reimbursements, including an online tracking system

•        Manage the transition to a paperless process for Accounts Payable and expense reimbursements

•        Ensure correct processing of accounts payable and cash receipts

•        Prepare journal entries and post to the general ledger

•        Manage the 1099 process


Other Duties

•        Assist with grant reporting

•        Assist with management of intern program

•        Perform data entry and clerical tasks for the Finance Department

•        Participate as a team member in Foundation events and programs

•        Complete special projects as requested by the CFO


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years’ experience with payroll, monthly closings, benefits management, accounts payable, and cash receipts
  • Experience or interest in a not-for-profit environment
  • Experience transitioning to or working in a paperless work environment – experience with Concur is a plus


Skills Required:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ADP WorkforceNow, and accounting software including Blackbaud
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills
