Position Summary:

The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy with an emphasis on growth in corporate donors and major gifts. The Donor Relations Manager will also be responsible for the organization’s donor stewardship program and communications strategy. The Donor Relations Manager will supervise the Development Associate and will be a member of the senior management team at UCPW. The Donor Relations Manager will be tasked with defining and executing a fundraising strategy in line with the organization’s overall strategic plan, and will shape the direction of the organization’s development department, with significant opportunity for growth.

We help people with mobility impairments maximize their independence and quality of life by building and strengthening rehabilitation services, including wheelchair provision. UCP Wheels for Humanity is one of the only organizations in the world that specializes in both physical rehabilitation and the provision of assistive technologies (AT), two interlinked services with dramatic impact on the lives of people with mobility impairments. Expected Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the UCPW Executive Director, and with the support of the development team of UCP Wheels’ parent organization, UCP of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara & Ventura Counties (UCPLA), the Donor Relations Manager will be responsible for expanding UCPW’s pool of donors, with a focus on five- and six-figure multi-year gifts. Responsibilities include:

Fundraising Strategy Development:

•       Determine goals and implement strategies to increase donations to the organization; with the Executive Director, jointly develop an interim and 3-year fundraising strategy, including goals upon which performance-based bonuses will be granted

•       Participate in organization-wide strategic planning, and ensure that fundraising plans align with the organization’s overall strategic plan

Corporate Partner Engagement:

•       Develop and implement a strategy for soliciting corporate support

•       Meet annual corporate fundraising goals.

•       Secure corporate gifts for the annual gala event

•       Collaborate with the Executive Director to identify, research, cultivate, and solicit corporate partners

•       Engage Board Members and the Executive Director in the ongoing solicitation and cultivation of corporate partners

•       Create sponsorship materials and proposals

•       Develop and maintain knowledge of corporate giving interests, staff and trends, including standard vernacular and tools

•       Manage corporate partnerships and relationships, ensuring fulfillment of sponsor obligations and cultivating and stewarding relationships

Major Gifts Cultivation:

•       Collaborate with Board Members and Executive Director to identify and build relationships with new major donors; maintain relationships with existing donors

·       Cultivate new and deepened investments from major donors to meet annual major gifts goals

·       Prepare major donor gift proposals to secure major multi-year gifts

·       Design and execute planned giving campaign

·       Grow portfolio of donor-advised fund holders

Donor Stewardship:

·       Design, execute and coordinate donor stewardship program

·       Oversee the stewardship process to include gift acknowledgment and customized stewardship communications demonstrating the impact and benefits of giving

·       Develop and manage donor education and engagement activities

·       Work closely with the Programs and Finance departments to identify and determine development opportunities and to solicit information for stewardship communications.

Communications:

·       Oversee organization communications strategy, including design and content generation of printed collateral, eblasts, funding appeals, promotional videos, and social media posts

·       Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and rules regarding privacy and communications

·       Design and coordinate collateral development for special campaigns, including the organization’s 25th anniversary in 2021

Management:

·       Coordinating closely with the Executive Director and the UCPLA development leadership, manage the Development Associate, who is responsible for the organization’s foundations and individual donor program

·       Work with Development Associate to ensure timely donor acknowledgements are sent and data is entered into the Raiser’s Edge database

·       Coordinate with the UCPLA development team on events and fundraising activities that involve the family of organizations

•       Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

•       Bachelor's degree in business, non-profit management, communications or relevant discipline

•       A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in fundraising, including demonstrated experience working with high net worth donors and corporate partners

•       Ability to interact well with a diverse range of people

•       Strong collaboration and influencing skills

•       Solid organization skills and impeccable attention to detail and accuracy

•       Professional and mature interpersonal work style, with excellent written and verbal communication skills

•       Participatory work style; team player with ability to give and receive feedback

•       Strong goal orientation with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and respond to opportunities as they arise

•       Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion

•       Proactive problem solver who is equally comfortable asking for help and finding a solution with little direction.

•       Demonstrated ability to work well in teams, comfort with periods of ambiguity, and constructive participation in ongoing organizational development

•       Willingness and ability to work outside the regularly scheduled work day as needed

Working conditions:

•       Ability to sit for long periods of time

•       Ability to use a computer keyboard for extended periods of time

•       Occasional travel (post-Covid), including to our Chatsworth HQ office, if not based in Southern California

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary Range: $90,000 to $125,000, depending on experience

Location: Preferably based in Washington DC, Los Angeles or New York. Position will be predominately remote, with periodic travel to our Chatsworth, CA, headquarters and other locations as needed.
