Reports To: Director of HIV Prevention

 

Schedule: Standard 35 hours per week. Position may require evening and weekend shifts, as necessary. 

 

Position Summary: The Sexual Health Education Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of individual and community-wide sexual health initiatives that support HIV prevention and care. Through direct client services, innovative outreach planning, and event-based workshops, these initiatives aim to empower LGBTQ communities and improve health outcomes. The ideal candidate is dynamic and client-centered with a passion for sex-positive and LGBTQ-affirming approaches to health education. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one education and navigation support to clients interested in PrEP, PEP and other methods of prevention, including linkage to LGBTQ-affirming medical care. 
  • Support the HIV testing team, providing testing and counseling to clients during walk-in testing hours as needed, and maintaining a monthly shift to support our Wednesday evening hours from 5-7pm. 
  • Develop and implement a strategic outreach plan to increase client recruitment and engagement through social media, community partnerships, and venue-based outreach.
  • Work collaboratively with the HIV Prevention and Communications teams to create new and innovative sex-positive messaging to increase community awareness, combat stigma, and address other issues impacting LGBTQ communities. 
  • Plan and coordinate events and workshops that promote community empowerment through health education and special topics that engage LGBTQ communities in conversations about safe and pleasurable sex. 
  • Maintain and foster community partnerships throughout all boroughs of NYC.
  • Complete administrative tasks in a timely manner, such as entering client data and case notes into The Center’s electronic record system. 
  • Meet specific goals and targets and deliver monthly reports accordingly.
  • Provide supervision and training to interns and peers as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in human services, social work or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in the field of HIV prevention and sexual health education, particularly HIV testing and counseling, PrEP/PEP navigation, care coordination, and/or health education. 
  • Demonstrated skills in program planning, curriculum development, group facilitation and training, community organizing and outreach.
  • Strong leadership, administrative, organization, and written/verbal communication skills; bilingual in Spanish highly preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Strong commitment to inclusive, multicultural programming; prior experience working with diverse communities and an understanding of intersectional oppressions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues, needs and interests of LGBT youth, adults, families and community, including knowledge of the spectrum of gender identity and transgender issues.
  • Experience working effectively in coalitions with diverse communities and an understanding of the intersectionality of oppressions.
  • A strong commitment to social justice and the mission of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center.
