Community Learning Center (CLC) is looking for full and part-time (14 to 29 hours per week) Adult Education Teachers to develop, adapt, and deliver instruction that is aligned to the College and Career Readiness Standards and prepares individuals for success in their careers. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Adult Education Teachers will help students improve their academic skills in math, reading, science, and/or social studies, prepare to pass one or more HSE subject tests, and advance to post-secondary education and/or employment.

Founded in 1987, CLC is a nonprofit adult education and workforce development organization based in North and West Philadelphia and is one of the top-performing adult education providers in the region. CLC strives to make Philadelphia a city where all adults have the education and employment they need to support themselves and their families. CLC provides free classes, tutoring, career coaching, job placement, and support services that enable low-income adults to earn their high school equivalency diploma by passing the GED or HiSET exam, learn English, and gain employment.




Instruct students in job readiness, science, math, social studies, and/or reasoning through language arts (RLA)

Assist with ongoing revisions to CLC’s curricula and associated lesson plans

Substitute teach in other classes as needed and appropriate

Prepare progress report for all students after post-testing

Conduct progress meetings with students to discuss learner progress and plan next steps

Foster retention by calling students who miss class

Data and Other Records


Maintain accurate and timely attendance and other records, e.g., daily attendance sign-ins, weekly attendance entry, reporting of core and secondary goals

Maintain complete and accurate student folders in locked files on-site, in compliance with funders’ guidelines

Professional Development and Staff Meetings


Engage in job-embedded professional development to improve student outcomes

Attend required assessment training and refresher courses

Actively participate in staff and program meetings



Bachelor’s degree and at least one year classroom teaching experience required

Major in science, history, or math preferred

Experience in adult or alternative education preferred

Experience teaching employability skills preferred

Understanding of College and Career Readiness Standards, and standards based lesson planning

Experience with Excel, e-Data, or other data management systems

Demonstrated ability to support the use of a variety of technology in the classroom, such as IXL and KET Fast Forward.

Part-time employees are not eligible for health insurance benefits but are eligible for other benefits. It is possible for a part-time position to eventually change to full-time.
