Published 23 days ago

The Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) seeks a Program Associate to support its work halting the petrochemical infrastructure buildout that threatens the global climate and the health of communities across the US Gulf Coast and Appalachian region. The Program Associate will support CIEL’s work to connect and equip frontline environmental justice communities with the advocacy tools and resources needed in their jurisdictions and increase corporate accountability. These efforts will highlight the links between fossil fuels and plastic and help amplify the power of currently disparate movements working to confront the toxic impacts of plastic throughout its lifecycle (wellhead, refining, production, consumption, and waste management). Experience with frontline and directly impacted environmental justice communities is a must.

The Program Associate will participate in coalition spaces on behalf of CIEL and maintain effective working relationships with partner organizations, as well as with the media and advocacy targets, including decisionmakers. The position requires highly effective writing and/or public speaking skills, project management, event coordination, and the ability to work in collaborative processes with people from diverse backgrounds. The position demands occasional national and sometimes international travel, often for significant periods, and it reports to the Plastics & Petrochemicals Campaign Manager.
